This mysterious red area appears on the 4/6/2010 aerial image of Google Earth in the South Dakota Badlands region. It is approx. 1700-feet square. The military has done training for bombing in various areas of the Badlands since WWII, but I don't believe any was taking place as late as 2010.
Latitude 43°42'57.5"
Longitude 102°39'55.9"

My guess would be an IR photo got slipped into mix somehow.
It's not there on my google earth.
Never mind, forgot to change the date. Yes it's there
N43°42'57.5" W102°39'55.9
Doesn't show up for me.
Weird, I tried the time line and there a are pictures every week, some at night for the whole year up until 12/25/2013 (in the future). Probably some sort of computer mess up.
Remember the last episode of Wearehouse 13, last year!! With that evil germ spreading world wide?? :-O
It's on the Image dated April 2006. If you scroll through the image dates (upper left hand frame) it's not on any of the others...

must be a (big) red hankie someone dropped...o.O

Whatever it is, it is in both the NE/4 and the NW/4 of Section 10, Township 4 South, Range 12 East, Black Hills Meridian and Baseline.
B-)
It also shows on the 6/19/2010 photo but not on the 12/30/2010 shot.
there is some sort of delineation shown veiwing the red photo. whether it's IR or a different spectrum, I'd like to know. oil?
tooo easy.....
foot print of an Alanis Morissette concert..... 😉
I've seen the millions of images when i select the date with an obliqued view of Earth, but it goes to normal when you ortho yourself.
I see the red box and I have no clue.
tooo easy.....
I'd be inclined to guess that there's an operational missile silo there.
tooo easy.....
If that's the case, it would be a lot more effective to just blur out a smaller region instead of putting a big red flag on it.
FEMA detention camp
tooo easy.....
And why only that one date?
tooo easy.....
Passing on data only takes a small time frame- don't need to show it forever. blur out one spot it's a big tattle-tale. One red image in a whole batch, it's oops- accident ... sorry.... my bad....
"FEMA detention camp"
Dammit! I knew they really existed!!!
:-O
tooo easy.....
I'd think there would be roads visible for access to a silo. Lots of access required for construction and maintenance.
There's a decommissioned one they give tours to at
43°55'52.79"N, 102° 9'34.90"W
for comparison.
