There are some sparsely populated areas here in Cleveland County. Section line road names like End of the World Road, Dead Armadillo Road and Rattlesnake Road are for real and for true...and aptly named.

The area is not known for its high property values. If you're fond of sandy washed out roads, prickly pear and scorpions, this is the place for you.

I'm doing some utility R/W in the area and found some older records at the courthouse of what is basically an "unrecorded plat". The Clerk just tosses 'em into a file labeled "surveys" and moves on. Some are real well put together, others look like they were drawn on donut shop napkins. The one I needed was from the '70s and drawn by one of our local (God rest his soul) yocals that was surveying before we started licensing. Although he DID get a number, it never really meant much.

And to top it all off, the Certified Corner Cartoons Records were filed years ago by another notorious outlaw surveyor with almost as bad a reputation. I thought this is going to be a real pain in the butt....

The corners were amazingly still there. Most of the references were there also after thirty something years. After looking at everything the M&B descriptions and pins actually fit today's measurements by 0.04'!!!! And these two numbskull's records actually agree!!!

Something BIG is gonna happen like lightning striking..or a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. Jeebus may even rise from the grave. I'm scared. I've never seen this happen. I better go get a lottery ticket...

However I did get some inspiration for a photo-essay of the area; the materials and construction practices for skirting mobile homes around there is truly innovative. One is skirted with black plastic silt-fencing (that some construction site is no doubt missing..). Not only are pallets used for skirting on another home, they're painted Crimson & Cream in honor of our local Sooner Football team. With a couple of old tires painted white and cut to shape to spell OU!

Civic Pride is alive and well on Dead Armadillo Road!

The client must have specified the korn-squeezins payment couldn't be drunk til the job was done.

Ya see! Miracles really do happen!

We have a nearby county where you could live on Unique Road. In another you could live on X-Ray Road

Any time something comes together like that for me., it usually turns around to be the exact opposite.

One of my favorite roads here in Arizona is Carefree Highway.
Can't afford to live there, but it's a nice stretch of desert.

I live in the area where the inspiration of the Eagle Song "Seven Bridges" came from, the seven wooden bridges it took to cross the rivers in the area. None exist today. The remnants of two are still in place after burning. The others are now concrete.

Just up the hill is Tobacco Road.

Many original roadways were named for the ferry crossings on Sulphur River or the Towns they went to.

A few roads follow portions of the Caddo Trace.

My father's driveway is a portion Cherokee Trace leaving Gilmer heading West after crossing Buck Creek. It followed the north boundary of my great, great grandmothers homestead.
