I use a 450 MHz GPS base and rover. The base is an R8 without a radio, uses an external Trimmark III. Contractor now has all 900 MHz setups. Question is, can I stick a 900 radio in the R8 base I have and use it as a rover when I'm on a site where their base is already set up, and still use it as a base with my 450 Trimmark III and rover?
Trimble doesn't make a 800 MHz radio. To my knowledge, the 800 MHz spectrum is usually short range and used in Leica robotics. Is this a machine control signal or GPS correction? If the later, who is the manufacturer?
Not quite sure about the modification for adding-on the radio, however you can easily change radio freq in your Radio or Rover "style files" , this is also switched between in your Base style file for when you use it as a Base.
If it doesnt have radio its going to be pretty uses as a rover.
Randy,
I just looked in Survey Controller, and as said before, there is an option to switch between "internal/external" under radio settings. You'r theory should work if the 900 is left in the base head. From what I've researched, adding the 900 internal should just be a "plug and play".
Maybe need to put your glasses on
Louis,
Only concern I have is if the internal would somehow override the external when used that way because they would both be on
Excuse me?
Before you make snide comments maybe you should proofread what you write. Are you talking about a 800 MHz radio or a 900 MHz radio? They are different. The SPS radios are 900MHz...
Sorry if you are offended but there's nothing in my post about an 800 radio, only a 450 and a 900. Thought maybe you were like me and couldn't tell an 8 from a 9 without glasses.
Trimble DOES sell an 900mgz radio for the R series receivers.
You could put one in your base and then use it as a rover. This would not cause any harm when you use your TrimMark 3 as an external radio.
Once the TM3 is specified in your survey style, it takes over and you do not use the internal radio in the base at all.
These 900mgz radios are NOT cheap....
The other alternative is to plug your TM3 into the back of the machine control base station.
Many of them have another port that you can plug a seperate radio into. That way, the surveyors and construction folks can run off of the same base station.
Thanks Tom, good info. Saw some on Ebay for $1200, not sure what a new one costs. I have had a TM3 and a SNB900 hooked to a MS750 base, but all of them now are 850-851, I guess could connect to them also with the right cable combination?
