I wondered the same thing when I read Adam's post so I went to the Trimble website and read their white paper. It sounds like a short term boost when you are outside RTK radio or cell/VRS range. It is only good for up to 5 minutes. Might be useful in limited applications. Knowing Trimble, there will undoubtedly be a fee attached to using the service.
No, it's free - assuming you have purchased a system that Trimble deems worthy (the R10). From what I gather it's a new spin/rebranding of omnistar.
They simply purchase bandwidth on a communications satellite.
