Any of you have a Topcon IS Robot? We are looking at getting a robot and my long time dealer has an older IS-1 that has been in their possession since it was new. They said it hasn't been rented that much so it has been lightly used. We are working in Florida doing construction layout on several projects for one of the major theme park guys. Not the top dog but the other guys. We are working a ride, a water park, a hotel complex, and several buildings for them constantly doing layout, progress topos, checking other surveyors, control, etc. We have been scanning since '08 and already have all the software for the scanning.

I'm looking for opinions about its reliability, performance, etc. I'm not getting it because of the Imaging and Scanning- that would be Lagniappe.

Also, what is that unit worth used? I think they said it was 7 or 8 years old but hardly used and when it was rented, it went into their shop to be checked out.

Any opinions appreciated.

Nice talking to you Alan. You'd better get back to dinner with your wife. Call me back tomorrow or send me an email. I can't find your email address.

Here is info you asked for:
1) Check to see if the IS-3 includes a RC3, RC4 or a WT-100
2) I recommend using it with Magnet Field software on a Windows 7 - Tablet PC suchs Panasonic ToughPad FZ-M1. Can be purchased from Topcon or online.
3) Here is a link to http://www.shapeways.com/shops/leegreen&apos ;">RamMount for the ToughPad FZ-M1
3) Depending on the RC unit it has, you may or may not need additional radio.

This is a great instrument for the BIM industry. I'm working a large $2B commercial BIM project with similar setup.

Here is a screen shot using Magnet in a 3D BIM project.Lines are all from CAD. We are checking hangers, and pipes with TS in non-prism mode.
