I have been having some real troubles with the communications between my Topcon 815A Robot and my SurvCE 2.5 on my Carlson Surveyor+. I mean this thing had become VERY balky and would go all spastic at the most random of times and require a hard reset that would take 3~5 minutes to get back up and running... Well today, I could NOT get it to hard reset and stop a stream of data (said it was still measuring after 3 hard boots) and had to call Hayes. I told them my version (2.5) and they suggested that I call Carlson. I got home, called Carlson and verified that there has been some communication problems with the Topcons (it sounded like all of them) and the SurvCE 2.5.

So if YOU are having problems with this setup, you might call them and get them to DOWNGRADE the version you are working with (Version 2.09) and hopefully that will get you back on a productive track.

It has been VERY FRUSTRATING for some time!! :pissed: But I had chalked much of it up to newbie quirks that I had not figgered out yet... but that wasn't entirely the case.

Carl

It's no biggie... I'm used to it. Apparently no one is using that setup... or I was the only one that DIDN'T know... Either way, it's cool.

> This will not be any help for you but I had the same problem with SurvCE 2.5 on Carlson Explorer 600+ paired with Sokkia SRX. I had to reboot the data collector 8-10 times every day and some times it did not work at all. I am using TDS now with better results.

I had to do the hard boot a bunch too... hopefully the downgrade will work, if not, I'm looking at the DC50.

Hi Carl,

I checked with the SurvCE programming and technical support staff and they indicated Carlson "has done some work on the Topcon's recently" (within the last few weeks) and asked that you Email us at [email protected] with your Name, Phone Number, Email address and details of Communication method you use between the Carlson Surveyor+ collector and the Topcon Robot (such as RC2 only or RC + Satel 2AS).

They indicated they'd like to send you a current build which is not yet publicly available to see if this addresses the issue you are experiencing.

Ladd,
Thanks for this information. I have a Topcon 8005A robot, Surveyor+, and I use Hayes Bantams to communicate between them. My communication problems are not as severe as Carl's, but irritating just the same. My rig will sit there and go through some sort of cycle, and then stop. I can then hit the Quick-lock, and it will come find me. This problem is the same as when I had Satel radios, and was one of the reasons I got the Bantams. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dale Yawn,
Savannah, Ga.

Ladd,

I got Brian Hammer to send me a copy of SurvCE 2.09 to try out, and it worked OK at first yesterday, and then just stopped. I had the little beach ball rolling sometimes 4~8 MINUTES when going between screens. And then I talked at length (he listed to be rant and vent...) with John Gerber and he sent me the newest version of the SurvCE and I have it loaded up now, and am heading to the field. I hope this does the trick. I am on my fourth day of a job that should have taken 3/4 of a day. If this doesn't work, I'm going to replace all the batteries in the chain of events....

Today in the field went by without any glitches with the new version.

12/23/10 loaded Survce 2.52. upgrade from 2.09

Bluetooth connection to Topcon GPT-3005LW worthless.

V2.09 is only version working.

Waiting for tech support to call back, which, after reading the posts here, will result in my downgrading to v2.09.

Wish i never drank the kool-aid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More Information

The Bluetooth connection is a timing issue between the program SurvCe and the Bluetooth drivers in the data collector.

Just spent a half hour on the phone with tech support and after multiple sequencing through open/close/on/off connections I have seem to find that waiting say, 15 seconds, before you tap the connect key it will work.

This is true even if you say continue without connecting and the use the upper left pull-down menu to connect. JUST WAIT A WHILE, and you should be ale to connect without issue. This had been a problem since the beta version 2.43.

Have a HAPPY HOLIDAY. 🙂
