Some surveyors are so ego-centric they feel they must leave their mark at every corner and control point, just like the dog I referenced above.?ÿ We aren't allowed to drag them to the town square and hang them for the public to be entertained.?ÿ Dang it!?ÿ Civilization strikes again.
Ad libbing....
The other surveyor got a phone call, while relieving himself in the ssame place,,,,
@nate-the-surveyor probably lol. Probably had to rush off to one of those emergency construction jobs and it just slipped through the cracks. During the recession I had gone out to a job in Georgia that had been recorded for over 2 years and not one corner had been set. ?ÿIt was just one of those accidents that one day the rls woke up and it hit him. He called and asked if I could help. ?ÿI said sure. It was a stake dinner and beer type of thing. Great guy. Good surveyor but somehow it just slipped his mind. ?ÿIt does happen. We are all human we all make mistakes. ?ÿI was out of work for full time work during the time and had called and emailed everyone I knew letting them know i was available. ?ÿTough times. A lot of good surveyors ended up in totally new careers during that and yet to come back. I finally made it back but i was able to stay in the geomatics industry. ?ÿI did some part time at Home Depot cut fire wood cleaned stalls. Handyman work. Part time consultant made training videos for surveyors field software. ?ÿWas a time of hustling for any dime i could make. Until my clearance was re activated and landed at NGA. Now the economy is headed for another one. Lol.?ÿ
@holy-cow I always leave what I call Surveyor:s scent, red flagging at every corner I find.
You calling me ego-centric? ????
You found it without the red flagging, didn't you??ÿ Why won't the next person?
???? ???? ?????ÿ
?ÿ
The stone was called for in the deed. Same thing at the second corner.
And we wonder why some members of the public think surveyors haven??t got a clue. ?ÿThat kind of crap creates uncertainty and in this case those members of the public are right.
?ÿ
?ÿ
Would pincushioning be greatly reduced if every surveyor was required to personally witness anything being set with their cap?
Maybe.
Or.
Before letting any field crew set monuments, train them up to understand why or why not to set and open up the lines of comm.
Thia ain't 1968 we have cell phones and even GMRS/FRS and UHF radios to stop the madness with a simple?ÿ 'hey what's the deal here's question.
?ÿ
???ú??¬????
Wow.
?ÿ
Seems like that's a great topic of discussion fo board or at the very least LS to crew that set it.
????
I'll say it again.?ÿ It's the dog leaving his scent.
Makes as much sense as the dog trying to leave his scent on a car tire as the car goes driving past his home.
We humans like to think we are superior to "dumb" creatures.?ÿ Some of us also like to think we are superior to all other humans, or, at least, other surveyors.
@field-dog actually it is a witness monument for the section corner (iron pipe with no cap.) No joke. I found a map of the ranch filed at the GLO and the surveyor called to set witness corners, in most cases, right next to the actual section corners. The only time the witness corners were set in a different location was when the section corner fell in the road.
@holy-cow Sometimes it's 12 inches under a County road. After digging for an hour chipping away with a digging bar finding a little piece of flagging sure encourages me to keep digging.
