So as I'm getting better at this, I find myself wanting to tweak things but for some reason my computer acts differently than others in the office.
example... I needed to label lots of small areas by polyline. I didn't care about the acreage, just the sq.ft. I kept trying to take the "acres" out of the label, but it would always stay there when I went to label. I tried it on two other machines and it did what I thought it should do, add the label with just sq. ft.
So is there a system variable or lock that I'm missing that isn't letting me tweak these things.
example 2. trying to get the line label to add "crows feet".. I see the switches to add that, but it just ignores me.
thanks.

Go to pulldown area/layout > area default. Remove acre from the right hand "used fields" box.
I did that. I meant to type "settings" after "label"
Guess I'm not quite sure of what you mean.
I go to the "Area/Layout" pulldown then to "defaults".
I highlight the "acres" from the box on the right and click "Remove".
hit Okay
select "areas by closed polyline"
Go to the drawing and click on a polyline.
label is STILL showing sq.ft and Acres.
go back to the defaults window and they are both there.
I must be missing something.
It worked perfectly as expected on two other machines.
Also, won't let me add any entities to the list either. It's like it's locked into the setting of sq.ft and acres. only.
I'd go to the settings pulldown....give it a kick and have either a Guinness or a Woodrich Reserve. In fact I think I'll step out and do that right now sans the kick.
Andy~ Have you tried running the program with Administrator and make changes?
I always put the label on its own layer (print what comes up in the dialog box to have the calls) and use that information to draw text to the location I want the info on my drawing.
The label layer does not get printed on the final drawing.
Mine was acting wonky earlier. I was using DI to measure some distances and it keep ending the command after each measure instead of being in continuous mode. I got out of the program and then restarted it and the glitch went away. And/or maybe restart the computer just for good measure (no pun intended).
Have you tried setting your fields and saving the setup before selecting Ok and leaving the Area defaults. Also you may try on one of the other working machines saving the setup and loading on your machine. You could setup and save on yours and load on the other machines and see what happens as well.
Might just setup the fields to come in on different layers and just turn off the acres layer.
Have you checked for any updates for Carlson or autocad? We have about 6 machines running Carlson and we all pull settings from the same place and have our minor tweaks but sometimes a machine will just fight us and we have to uninstall and reinstall the program.
You are overthinking it. Just delete the acres portion of the label.

well that sort of defeats the purpose of settings, doesn't it!??! haha.
I think that is a new bug in Carlson. I removed the "sq ft" label several times, and it re-appears next time I start Carlson.
are you all using Intellicad?
"Settings" pulldown
"Configure" "Cogo-Design"
"Area label defaults"
first column, after Acres, change the number "2" to blank.
Doing that in the "Annotate Defaults" only lasts for one session then resets on next start up.
Settings/Configure is also where you change you square foot default to "no decimals" and your acreage to 2, 3 or 4 decimals.
