I am thinking of using a parani sd 1000 to extend the range of the built in bluetooth of an Archer 2. I want to plug the Parani into the serial port on the Archer 2 . I need help in how to configure the Archer 2 to recognize that I am using a bluetooth device in the serial port. Thanks for your help
I don't have specific info toward your question but, this old post, https://surveyorconnect.com/community/threads/how-not-to-buy-a-bluetooth-radio.307343/#post-307547 , has a cool DIY Bluetooth extender using paranis.
Start with the 4th post in the thread, by Matthew M Filus . Not sure if Wendell can re-up the photos, as they seem to have been moved or expired.
The serial port will just work as normal and assume your parani is a serial cable and your second parani is the end of the cable. So set up what ever data collection software you have to communicate by cable. At least that's the way I have it setup.
What data collection software and instrument are you using?
I am using an 1103 and Fieldgenius 9
Hey Dane, did you get this sorted?
Not sure why you'd want to use a Parani at your Archer2, as the Archer2 already has class I bluetooth and a Parani with a 5 dbi antenna won't offer any improvement in range. Are you using the Parani at the instrument (ie. cabled to the RS232 port on your Leica)?

What kind of range do you get with this arrangement?

Depends on what BT device you are connecting to on the other end, but two class I devices should provide about 1,400' of range.
Weeeeell the Archer2 claims 300 meters IIRC and Parani claims 1000 meters with a patch ant....most of the time I will be within 300-400 feet.
