I had time to pick up some monuments before church this morning. Bear in mind the street centerline monuments are not original from the plat so could have shifted, and there are two monuments at the center of section about two feet apart. In other words, the control points are sketchy.
That said, the ACP is by a good surveyor, and the nail and disk not so much. Discouraging.

That is so frustrating.
I will try to find a picture, but I cannot remember if I took one, but I once found a pincushion of one of my former boss's corners. I know it was his corner that was pincushioned because I could see where the other surveyor had driven the rebar down beside his rebar and cap, and scarred his cap and the rebars were touching all the way down, and his cap was damaged.

Rule of Thumb: If you need to set a new marker in the immediate vicinity of an existing one, be sure to set a better quality marker than the one found in place. If all you've got are plastic thingies for a location in pavement, you should really try to figure out where you went wrong in life.

I just spit out coffee on my desk. LOL
Best one I've ever ran across is two caps touching each other.
Funny part is they're both by the same surveyor.
I would post a pic, but I don't want to embarrass him on a public board, although it is probably well deserved. I doubt if many of us have pincushioned ourselves.
[sarcasm]"He missed it by that much"[/sarcasm] (holding two finger slightly apart). I wonder if he used least square adjustment it would be even closer!
If I need to set a new marker in the vicinity of the old one I accept the old one.
