This is something I've always dreamt about. Too bad it only works with Leica Captivate field software. Finally, Leica has got a prism pole with active tracking, a tilt compensator, and an automatic pole height update. I wonder how heavy the whole package would be. I'd still use a bipod for keeping the pole out of the mud.

Hey Ramses,
Thanks for sharing this, been using the tilt compensation with GPS which gets you out of some tight spots. Hard to believe at first but very useful and still accurate.
Very cool, but I have yet to see any price mentioned. I've heard a rumor that it goes for around $10,000.?ÿ That would make it a tough sell.?ÿ
Depending on the type of work you do, I think even at $10K it could be worth it.?ÿ For setting out the time savings on just getting close to the hub location without having to level up would save a ton of time.?ÿ I can not count the number of times I have had to set another control point just to get a couple of topo shots that are barely blocked.
As for the cost, it sounds like that includes a new radio handle and, just speculating, it might have a new type of 360 prism.
@john-putnam Leica has already a very dependable and accurate 360 prism - MPR122. I don't think they need to change that. I wonder , besides the inclinometer and radio, what else resides in the device below the prism. I believe the pole itself must be a special one, fitted with some sort of a linear sensor scale, so it can get the pole length at any moment. Power for the scale could be supplied by the device above which can send the updated info to the DC. The active tracking is also a bit of a mistery.
@ramses Yeah the current prism is fine, I only mentioned that because the one they show in some of the material looks different.?ÿ After looking again they the must have a different 360 with a female 5/8" for construction.?ÿ The system does use a new pole, the GLS51 for surveyor's or the CRP4/CRP5 for construction layout.?ÿ From a video I saw somewhere sensor reads the rod to determine which snap lock the rod is on.?ÿ If you are not locked into one of the 5 cm or 0.2 ft snap locks for some reason, you need to enter the height.
