It happened again today. ?ÿI was in a store when a young man crossed my path. ?ÿAlthough he made no sign of recognizing me I immediately felt that eerie negative vibe that told me he was potential trouble. ?ÿMy brain raced in an attempt to identify him and some past experience with him. ?ÿEither we had a disagreement in the past or he was present when something negative took place. ?ÿWas he an unhappy client or unhappy adjoiner? ?ÿWas he a slow pay that I had to threaten with small claims court? Was he the jerk that cut me off in traffic last month? ?ÿWas he the blind referee from the basketball game I attended last week?
This is going to bug me until I figure it out. ?ÿI'm betting most surveyors have a long list of such people that set off their "warning" sense.
Probably the equipment operator who parked in front of the backsight and left for the day.

A human being's sense of smell is probably the most underrated sensory input.?ÿ?ÿSmells can bypass your consciousness and go straight to your sub-conscious for quick processing. That's probably something we retain from our prehistoric genetic benefactors...at least the ones that survived by scampering up a tree quick enough to avoid being something else's dinner.

If I remember correctly, we were about eye to eye when we met.?ÿ And snatching top shelf goods at the grocer?ÿrequires a little creativity for me also.?ÿ?ÿ But I'm more of a mountain-goat than tool-wielder; I climb and?ÿgrab.?ÿ My kitchen?ÿhere at the house is?ÿ'40s vintage and there are cupboards all the way up to the ceiling.?ÿ My wife catches me "counter surfing" constantly.?ÿ And contrary to her vocal opinions I have yet to "break my neck".?ÿ

Ever since about age 16, I've been 6', and up to age 21 I was built like a rake handle. At Uni at about age 19, I went to the student health center for a Doctor's medical exam as part of a SCUBA divers certification. On the resulting medical certificate I was surprised to see my height recorded as 71cm, and my weight as 185kg. The SCUBA instructor asked whether I'd done the medical in the fetal position while wearing the full diving kit.

NGS data sheets report all elevations in US Survey Feet, regardless of the state adoption of one or the other foot for SPC purposes.?ÿ I would think a person's height should follow suit.

Some of us live in what seems to be tiny worlds at times. ?ÿThat is what makes this so awkward. ?ÿIf you are driving on the freeway in Houston and flip off another driver just as you split off onto an exit ramp, it is extremely unlikely you will ever see that person again. ?ÿDo something similar here and you will bump into them three times in the next week-----somewhere different each time.
Last week I had some extra help thanks to it being Christmas break still. ?ÿThe young fellow helping me grew up over 20 miles away from where we happened to be at the time. ?ÿI needed to stop by one of my properties and noticed a collection of vehicles nearby. ?ÿAbout that time several fellows I knew came out of a building down the street. ?ÿFound out they were elders of a nearby church who had met with their financial advisor (from over 100 miles distant) to consider ways to get better returns on their idle funds. ?ÿMy helper knew none of them but went down the street to look at a very nice car. ?ÿThe owner came out, hopped in, made a U-turn and started to drive off. ?ÿMy helper flagged him down. ?ÿTurned out it was his mother's first cousin from the Kansas City area who was the financial advisor and who is a regular at family gatherings over 50 miles distant from where we were.

A few years ago I was up in OKC at the dentist gettin' my poofy-pecks scrubbed.?ÿ The lady doing the scrubbing had been cleaning my teeth for at least?ÿten years.?ÿ She mentioned in passing she had "driven home" over the weekend to help her elderly mother.?ÿ I asked where "home" was at and she named a wide spot in the road (pop. 150) about 100 miles SW of here.?ÿ That just happened to be where my mother was born.?ÿ When she asked my mother's family name she got a strange look.?ÿ Seems as though her aunt had married one of my grandfather's nephews back in the day.?ÿ
She's been sticking her fingers in my mouth for over ten years and I never new we were somehow "related"...people need to talk more with each other.
The funny thing for me here in Texas is talking to people about my "home town" in Kansas. So far I've only come across one person who actually knew where that was. We had a good laugh.
I work with a guy who once dated a young lady who lived 15 minutes west of my home town. A former coworker of mine here in Texas had a 4 wheeler that needed parts. Those parts also came from that same town 15 minutes west of home. Crazy!

I didn't consider that. I guess using the Red Wings to kick stuff aside on the bottom shelf is useful.

Over 30 years ago I spent much time in Houston. ?ÿA co-worker of my friend there grew up in the next county seat to the west of the one you mention. ?ÿHer cousin was a classmate of mine in college. ?ÿMy friend knew that classmate, as well, but had no idea of his connection to the co-worker. ?ÿThe co-worker's father starting teaching at my old high school a year or two after I escaped.
