On the technology side.

Someday, we will largely interact with our data collectors, vi voice interface. Alot like Elexa:
So, we will say stuff like:
(you name your data collector)
Mine's is named "speedy"
"Hey, Speedy"
"Yes"

"What's the inverse between the 1st rebar we shot this morning, and the fencepost we just shot."
N 01?ø14'15" E 415.25'
OK, what's the Easting Difference?
8.97 feet.

And so on.

I can see this really working well.

Nate

Yeah, maybe...

My experience with voice control has been disappointing - even in quiet indoor environments.

Can't see it working in real life - too much traffic, construction, wind and other background noise.

And how will it go when I'm wearing hearing protection?

I think I would be one of those "features" that I would turn-off immediately and I would certainaly not be prepared to pay extra for.

But then I AM a Luddite

Hey Nate,

Just forwarded you an email I got this afternoon. Look at number 6 and 6A in the second group. Yes, IBM's Watson will be replacing 90% of the lawyers in the not to distant future.

D.C. Hal: "Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. The 9000 series DC is the most reliable DC ever made. No 9000 DC has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error. ."
