Here are some survey pics from Ireland. This is a project I am currently working on in the Shannon estuary.
Shannon airport is on the other side of the estuary. Some of you may have flown in there before.
The castle itself is about 800 years old.
Do you really get paid to do this? 😉
Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating landscapes shaped by long standing occupation.
As a kid I'd have had an awesome time exploring the mysteries of the old castle and the arched tunnel from the coast. (Actually this old kid would still enjoy the fascination)
What's the purpose of the survey?
Yes. Most jobs are not like this though.
Some development of holiday homes near the castle. The castle is to be maintained as a ruin so it has to be recorded as it stands. It was pretty cool to imagine life in the castle over the centuries.
Thanks for the photos. I am glad that there are surveyors making a living in Ireland. After seeing all of the stone walls dividing parcels when I visited Ireland, I thought "a surveyor could starve to death around here". Fun to look at your work.

Proper boundary registration does not exist here unfortunately, we have no proper cadastre. Boundary work is difficult to say the least! The majority of my work is topo and building measurement.
Hi,
Thanks for sharing, looks great !
At second thought it must be cold now out there with the low temperatures and the Always blowing coastwind.
Christof.
Awesome. Love the picts.
The few Shannon's I have known in my lifetime have always kept me at a safe distance from their estuaries. :-O;-);-)
Looks like a nice place to visit on a sunny, warm day. I would enjoy that. Have at least one ancestor from Ireland but his trip across the pond happened when the U.S. only consisted of several Colonies. Fortunately, he did not get along well with his new stepmother when he was 14. She made some demand that he did not like so he slapped her. Less than a week later he was stuck on a ship heading for the western shores of the Atlantic, arriving eventually in Virginia. I figure I would not exist if he had not slapped her and been sentenced to deportation by his remaining family members.
That reminds me, I'm out of Irish Whiskey.
What's wrong with your right hand bi-pod leg...?
It's broken and repaired with some kind of duct tape. Still does the job though, been like that about 8 years!!
Beautiful pictures! I too noticed the duct taped bi-pod leg...
This kind of makes me want a glass of Tullamore Dew...
Great photos. My wife's dad's family are originally from County Limerick... down towards Newcastle. We visited Ireland in 2012 and it was exciting to see business names with her last name, "Woulfe", in a few towns. Not a common spelling around here. The morning we flew back to the US we went to the riverside over by the Shannon Airport to get some rocks from the river for our daughter, whose middle name is "Shannon" after the river. The more photos you post the happier I'll be. Incredible country. Can't wait to return.

PTI (Paul the Irishman) posts here; well, he was a regular on the old board....
I remember his posts about boundary surveying and how he was successfully working towards a better system. Have you heard of him? I think he even ran for office at one point in time.
I remember Mike posting about his trip; always wanted to go there myself; Scotland too. Casement's and Kinnaird's would be the family name. I have 2 sisters that made a visit to Scotland this summer: Kinnaird Castle. The younger sister broke her leg in 2 places, less than 24 hours into the trip!
I've always wanted to visit Ireland, but winter is only time of year I can get out for any length of time and I've always been under the impression the weather there would be atrocious this time of year, but must say from your gorgeous photos, looks down right balmy in comparison to Alaska right now. Maybe I need to reconsider. Thanks for sharing.
I bought land a few years ago from Woulfe Auctioneers(Real estate) in Abbeyfeale which is not far from Newcastle west. To be honest it was the only time I have ever seen it spelled that way. I will post more pics from here over time if people want to see them.
I have only been to Scotland once as a child and it was great. Hoping to go again soon.
I think the efforts to change the boundary registration system may have stalled. Too many government organisations not open to change.
The influence of warm Atlantic currents keeps the weather mild. See: http://www.ireland.com/en-us/about-ireland/discover-ireland/irelands-weather/?gclid=Cj0KEQiA1dWyBRDqiJye6LjkhfIBEiQAw06ITjn8GeJO4QVVjsz4pMxvyFK1EpaEe-wsGI5OTGMcu7UaAiVR8P8HAQ
