How do you know your business partner is as big of a survey nerd as you are? When he??s in the middle of a 12 hour drive home on a Friday and you get a text with a pic of the initial point of the Boise Meridian at 10 am. It was on the way I guess.
How do you know he??s as sarcastic as you are? His text reads ??Found 3.5? aluminum cap 0.2?? east of true corner?
Dangit now you have to start over and resurvey all the townships?ÿ
Also note it??s a 6? stainless steel cap, just to add to the sarcasm.?ÿ
Sadly, I've lived in Boise for 5 years now and I've never gone to see this thing even once.?ÿ It's literally like... 2 miles from where I live right now.?ÿ ??? ????????
That image is rotated wrong. NORTH is UP, not to the west!
You may ignore the point that it is off by 0.2'.?ÿ The coordinates have changed far more than that due to tectonic plate movement.

So have all the other corners derived from it. The PLSS is a floating coordinate system.
Initial points aren't that special. After the rest of the township has been monumented that corner is no more important than any other.
We now have survey firms who no longer actually recover controlling monuments and rely on whatever state plane coordinates were determined at whatever time that monument was actually recovered.?ÿ Over time, a little error will be introduced.
Which dimple is the actual true point?
That handrail looks as though it's done a bit of tectonic shifting
