Spray paint on the asphalt, in big bright orange paint, the elvevation of a well established bench mark. Especially if you're going to state to the whole world the WRONG elevation of said bench mark!!

Grrrr!

If you are familiar with the way the NGS publishes "GPS" only control points, they round to the nearest foot. I recall seeing a GPS point with the NGS "published" elevation (like "Elev. = 94.00'" painted on the asphalt near by.

Is a nice round circle around it ok, so people can find it easier. Hope so, that's what I do. But never anything else.

Depends upon the size of the circle

The smaller the better

as long as no paint gets on the monument itself, is as big as it needs to be. Usually 4" dia or so

Some surveyors are no different

than a dog leaving his scent on a fire hydrant.

Things I just don't understand:
When you call DigTess, OneCall or 811 utility locators, and ask for a map, they say “No, because they don’t want terrorists getting their hands on the maps to plan an attack”, but then they are more than happy to paint the utility locations on the ground. So for the uneducated terrorist, who cannot read a map, don’t worry, it is right there in front of you.

LOL well....at least they're making the terrorist work for it. Now the terrorist need to call for a locate, then put the paint marks on a map by themselves (or hire a surveyor)
