Stopped at a corner we found in 1999. I noticed they'd run a new fence thru the area - so I checked to see if it had been disturbed.
corner rec from 1999
it was still there
I piled a fresh mound of stone on the east side and pushed the dirt back against the face to protect it a bit.
Here's a few pics of some sheep the St Regis cutoff-
here's a larger herd farther out in the field-
getting ready for winter
cool pic of a barn alongside 28 between Hot Springs and Lone Pine
You got some good weather and blue skies in the last pic,
any idea how old the barn is? Looks like it could use a new roof.
Thanks for sharing,
Chr.
Nice.
That fifth shot looks line another country to me.
The old barn photo is great, I am infatuated with those old structures. I'd like to poke around in there for awhile.
Coolio.
If I can ever get myself kicked out of the house, I am moving to Montana.
Great photos! Be careful, Paul in PA might accuse you of chiseling in that "1/4" on that stone.
Beautiful country!
Where's the Drill Hole in that stone? How do you know where to shoot ? LOL 🙂
Back in '99 when we tied it, it was painted day glo orange and had a black felt tip marker dot on the high point for a reference for the 2nd tie.
IF we were doing it today, it would have an "x" or drill hole in the top for a permanent mark.
RPLS.COM and surveyorconnect have made me scrutinize my methods and implement some changes.
Not sure how old the barn is- I'd suspect the '20's
What gorgeous country. Thanks for posting. Imagine you can leave your schonstedt behind when you're hunting up one of those old stone corners.
Nice, thanks for sharing.
Have a great weekend! B-)
a few more now that I have a cable
this is a pic of the fence corner from the truck- in a pull out at the top of the hill that is at the maximum effective range of a 1 liter bottle of water from the office.
- the area just NW of the corner had been a borrow site for the hwy project.
this is looking n'ly from the corner-

already pushed out on the nails- but it had been nailed too tight.

Some pretty country. I haven't been in Montana since 1970. I was surveying around Sidney, Bainville and Wolf Point for A seismograph crew.
Some of that stuff around Bainville in the Missouri River Breaks is rough.

I like what you did for perpetuation. Your statement: If we were doing it today, it would have an "x" or drill hole in the top for a permanent mark.
RPLS.COM and surveyorconnect have made me scrutinize my methods and implement some changes. That's what I like about this board. No matter how old the dog is he can learn new tricks, especially if it keeps him away from beer or wine or whisky!
