So I am as of today licensed in North Carolina. Now what do I do?:-D I know I think i'll go set some pincushions and not charge enough for surveys. I kid I kid.:-D
Congrats from one NC PLS to another.
Congrats! Now prepare to agonize over your own work.
Congratulations.
If I had one thing to pass on to a young Surveyor, it would be to hire a fee based financial planner to determine how much bank you need in order to retire on your schedule, and the best way to get to that distant goal.
Then, if it's with your own firm, or as an employee, be single minded towards that goal. Bear in mind that it is nearly impossible for a sole proprietor to match the 401K matches that a larger company can offer. Those matches are simply free money.
On the way you must hold high standards, protect the public and be professional in all of your dealings. At the end of the day, the work is the work.
With a scope-locked view of the end of your work life, on your terms, you may retire decades ahead or your newly minted peers.
Go forward and give it a kick up the arse!!!
Congrats from an AZ RLS. Got mine last year. Haven't used it yet. Still a party chief.
Congratulations!
Congrats from an old NCPLS that is nearing retirement, you maybe taking my place. What part of the state are you in?
Edward Killough, NCPLS
Hijack for Mr. Killough
Your surname is not as common as Smith or Jones but I worked with Kenneth Killough for several years, was in school with his daughter and a classmate of his step-daughter. I believe he told me he was an only child and then had only daughters so I think his line of Killough's died with him. He was born in Kansas about 1920. He never mentioned any cousins or other relatives with that surname. Any chance of him being a lost twig on your family tree? It is a long way from North Carolina to Kansas, but one branch of my own family tree reaches to West Virginia.
Hijack for Mr. Killough
He probably is. There is a monument in Texas to the Killough massacre there. I have a book going back to 1650, I will try to look him up.
Edward Killough, NCPLS
Edward I am in the Asheville area.
Congrats from yet another NC PLS
I was in Asheville two weeks ago...love that area...go as often as I can..Black Mountain also..talked to a surveyor from High Country Surveyors while my wife shopped in Black Mountain...oh, congrats on the license...
Hijack for Mr. Killough
After a fairly quick search using the LDS Family Search site I believe the trail backwards is as follows:
Kenneth, born 1917 in Kansas
Oliver, born about 1894 in Kansas
James B., born about 1869 in Missouri
James H., born about 1843 in Carroll Co. Tenn (married Nancy Burton)
Milton A., born about 1818 in Rutherford Co. Tenn (married Mary Porter from NC)
John, born about 1791 (married Eleanor Kirk)
I am more in the center of the state near Charlotte, but I survey cell tower sites all over the state, I work in your area quite often, in fact I was at the old fire station on Merrimon Avenue last week and have several other sites in and around your area. I also attended a SurvCE seminar at AB Tech in December.
