I found this north arrow on a plan filed (in 2010) at a local registry of deeds.
Any ideas on how to re-establish north?

Sounds like the common uninformed answer to the question of; Which way is north?
Common response? "Up!"
> Any ideas on how to re-establish north?
Sure, use North American Verified Datum 1988..just like it says! :snarky:

funny!

or maybe sad if this is for real :'(
At least it isn't NGVD29, that would make it really difficult;-)
No doubt a copy paste thing, still NAD83 wouldn't be all that much help either.:-(
Well, the second diagram is WRONG. Half way between the sun and the hour hand is SOUTH!

Only wrong in one hemisphere...why you got to be so provincial 😉

I live in the western hemisphere, and I don't own a watch... what to do?
I think its telling you to ,"go high enough and you wiil find it". NAVD 88!!
A pretty arrow. Do any portions of the plan rely on elevation?
Nifty video. Thanks.
Understood, but my question stands: Do any portions of the plan have any need for an elevation?
Like:
- A zoning line based on flood plain elevation.
- A view easement based on an elevation.
- Some minimum elevation for a tower.
OH! Is this site due south of Rimouski, Quebec, Canada? That would be a tricky one.
That first diagram leaves out a critical assumption-you have to precisely straddle local noon. I think if I follow its instructions at 3:00 and 3:15 pm I'll be a little off of north.
I have yet to be impressed by the content on that site.
Here's what my Boy Scout Field Book says..
about finding "true north":

And always remember the Oath!
On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. B-)
Hi Thadd,
No elevations on the plan as recorded - strictly a perimeter plan.
I will be doing a topo on the site, so I may get to use that North arrow again, or not.
