I retired my 2001 F150 from regular service yesterday. It was bitter sweet. It has been a super dependable truck, very few problems with it at all, and mostly minor. It as just a hair under 260,000 miles on it, and my wife was starting to be concerned with the amount of traveling I do, so she decided it was time to upgrade.

Here are a few pictures:

Wow,

I didn't realize that Ford had a half ton crew in 2001. What are you replacing it with?

That red truck looks in excellent condition!

Thanks Craig.

It is in really good shape. I try very hard to take care of my stuff.

It will be my backup truck, and I plan on keeping the camper shell on it for those times when I might need it for a job if the other one is being serviced.

I also have a 1997 Chevy standard cab with an open bed. I use it sometimes if I am doing a lot of inverts or something like that. It is easier to have the open bed sometimes for certain tasks. It is in pretty good shape as well, but nothing like the red Ford.

And I thought that I had a lot of stuff in my truck. That looks like enough for 2 crews.

Yea, I tend to carry a lot of stuff.

The types of work I do, I tend to have a wide variety of tasks. One day I might be doing an elevation certificate, and the next morning doing construction layout, and then off to a boundary survey after lunch.

It's not uncommon for me to have static GPS running on control while I am traversing or topoing a site. I try hard to think outside of the box and work as efficiently as possible while in the field.

Jimmy, got it:

[msg=282849]Jimmys new truck[/msg]

Sorry, I havn't been following the board close enough lately.

That new truck is a beaut! I agree - a 6.5 foot bed would be nice. I am working out of an 8 foot bed, and those last 2 (3) feet up near the cab is basically wasted space.

Plus you've taken the time to built the box... something I need to get after. We are still figuring out how to work out of a pickup with a camper shell. We've had utility bodies since I was born. This last utility body literally rotted off the truck, so we replaced the body with a dealer take-off pickup bed. (the finances in 2010 sorta dictated that decision.)

With just basic side boxes I'm not loving working out of a pickup. With a big vertical system like you've built it's almost like a utility body and all those cabinets.

Thanks.

If you are going to keep that truck very long, it would be a great candidate for a bed slide. I am a believer now. I worked out of a long wheel base pickup for awhile, and with the right box, it can be a great asset.

Bitter sweet indeed. My 98GMC (red) is gonna give up on me (260k ish so far) before I give up on her.

Anyway that is the plan for now until SWMBO speaks. She has made some noise along those lines too...
