Just upgraded to a Dodge 1500 laramie with the big crew cab and need to get a topper on that thing. did a search here and found a few posts, but not much lately. looking at "diamondback" or maybe something lighter.
herculoc doesn't build for my truck!
Gotta go with the ARE. They are pretty tough, they can stand up to our group of bozos...
I got the ARE for mine also. I kept the tailgate, not the double doors in the back. Lift doors on both sides with a window on the passenger side only. That makes it easier pulling out in traffic at an angle. A window on the drivers side really serves no purpose.
I can send pictures if you like.

Love my diamondback with the linex coating. Not cheap, but it is great!
I went with a SnugTop for my last one. Same setup I always get, with side doors that double latch, and a double latch rear window. It does the job for what I need.
Always bought ARE for my other trucks, but this was a bit cheaper. The ARE seems much better quality in the locks, door hinges, and the rear light assembly. If I ever get another one, I'll go back to ARE
Pickupspecialties makes a great diamondback survey truck special
DiamondBack has many options for different sized and shaped openings
Both are strong enough to put an ATV on top
A regular camper shell is great if it has the side hinged windows that lift up like the tail gate window.

if you are looking for a tonneau style these are hard to beat. i like mine.
if you are looking for an actual cap style i like the leer 100RCC.

I've seen this on a rig and was contemplating one of these:
I have used the Silvershield on all the trucks I have surveyed out of over the years.

It allows for easy access to all sides of the truck. But like I said this is the only thing I have used.
If I didn't have the bed I do, that is exactly what I would get!

How much is a SS now a days? They were very expensive last time I used one and the shipping to get it to you was like $600.
I use the UnderCover SE on my truck (2007 Chevrolet 1500).
here is what I just ordered for my Dodge Laramie. with the black coating. can't wait!
