LightSquared lobbyists pushing MN legislators to demand action from Klobuchar, Franken
> Hot on the heels of catastrophically bad test results for LightSquared, their new strategy to get FCC approval for their commercial rollout has emerged — in St. Paul, Minnesota, of all places. Last week, lobbyists started a full-court press on state legislators in an effort to pressure US Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken into pushing for the FCC approval that the 75% failure rate in NTIA testing should disqualify. While the lobbying efforts of the Lehman Group are not new — Minnesota State News announced their efforts back in September — the lobbying has taken a more urgent tone of late.

Maybe they could sue thier lobbyists for not getting what they wanted. Or sue all of us GPS users for not consulting psychics to anticipate that they would be blasting out signals next to GPS. Or maybe they could sue the FCC, but the conventional wisdom about suing the FCC is that it not like shooting oneslf in the foot, but more like shooting onesself in the head.
Maybe that only leaces suing themsleves for their own failings.
I really do not get this ... this is the second article in the past few days where LSQ is now calling to accelerate their approval processes. The first I read was about LSQ offering "veto power" over the upper 10mhz in exchange for accelerating their use of the lower 10mhz. Gosh, I hope the FCC and Washington isn't this stupid. If anything, the recent test results should set the process back to zero, rather than be a spring board to ram it through in a hurry.
There is no doubt in my mind they have gone to the right people to ram this through. As commercial aircraft are falling from the sky, the present administration will be spinning it as a new way to bring down the unemployment numbers. We are ruled by idiots.
> We are ruled by idiots.
No, we're ruled by people who are very good at protecting their own self-interests. That's why the rich keep getting richer and richer at ever-increasing rates. Especially considering how many people in our government champion the ultra-rich under the myth that they're "job creators".
Are we in P&R land yet? 😉
LightSquared IS a job creator - for lobbyists!!
On Friday The Hill reported that LightSquared added its 15th lobbying firm. This time it is the big gun of Patton Boggs.
Add to that all the K Street horsepower retained by the other side and you've got a whole lot of spinning going on!
What I would really like to know about the Minnesota effort covered in the original post of this thread is if LightSquared is handing out to the state legislators those legalized bribes that our country quaintly refers to as "campaign contributions".
(Suppose that does move this thread to P & R, or at least PR 😉 )
Are there any Minnesota residents on this board who are contacting Senators Klobuchar and Franken and countering LightSquared's baloney?
GB
Al Franken
Isn't it ironic that one of the Senators involved used to do live via satellite commentary with a satellite dish on his head that would always get struck by lightning to reveal his glowing skeleton?;-)
