!

I watched for about 10 minutes and I feel really unclean now!

What a load of garbage, as if our "100,000 units" don't mean anything!!!

Our only hope is that our members of Congress are not as stupid as they look.

If this frequency issue can be successfully and reliably eliminated by use of an additional filter, be it internal or external (as suggested), it will be difficult for the things to remain the same in the GPS world.

The drive is immense.

You got it Moe, and they're loving every bit of it. That $800 will soon have another zero after it.

Still, an interesting hearing. I figure that the longer they all just talk about it, the closer I get to not having to worry about it.

Gents, The above mentioned Reps for various companies and companies themselves are far from the suggestion of waiting for the consumer to pay for a retrofit.
These individuals and these companies along with many more have engrossed themselves personally and professionally to see that the FCC waiver is revoked and lightsquared moves to another part of the spectrum. They and others are part of the Original Technical Working Group (TWG) that was compiled to do the initial testing and they are continually lobbying the FCC to require more testing.
It is never a good idea for a manufacturer to require a customer base to upgrade or change. They know this.

i hope the above is true. question; how were these panelists chosen? one lsq, two aviation reps and one agribusiness rep. zero manufacturers, zero ngs noaa, zero military, zero police/fire/rescue. the zero list goes on.

i am wrestling with this. my civics knowledge is probably a contributing factor, though

Committee Chairman Sam Graves:

More Testing

Oct. 12 -- The House Small Business Committee issued the following news release: House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today held a full committee hearing to examine the impact on small businesses that may result from LightSquared's use of its spectrum to provide broadband service near the Global Positioning System (GPS). Small businesses, including farmers, construction contractors, surveyors, and the general aviation industry, rely on the accuracy of GPS. Potential interference with GPS raises significant concerns to these small companies.

Oct. 13
Graves: Interference of the GPS Signal Will Cost American Small Businesses Billions & Compromise Safety.

"Increasing broadband to underserved and rural areas is a noble goal and only makes sense in this rapidly advancing technological world. However, we must find a solution to increase wireless broadband without jeopardizing currently established GPS systems and further burdening small businesses.

"Interference of the GPS signal will cost American small businesses billions of dollars to retrofit their GPS devices. This alone is an enormous burden that could harm or impair their business. From land surveyors to family farmers to thousands of other businesses-- a huge segment of our economy will be affected. But this is about more than the cost, it is also about safety.

Pilots rely heavily on GPS to maneuver their planes-- so above all, we must ensure that safety is not compromised.

"I am hopeful that we can find a solution that will not interfere with GPS, while still increasing wireless broadband nationwide. However, we are not there yet. It is clear from our small business witnesses that further analysis and tests for all GPS devices are needed before LightSquared moves forward. This Committee will be following the issue closely to make sure there are no added costs for small business GPS users and that safety remains of utmost importance."
