... a mention of a cased mon that doesn't tell you what was found inside. It's a long story that I won't bore you with, but this has been a serious issue around here for a current project. Grrr.
the pain is real....
My latest pet peeve is one of many. We are supposed to cap all of our set pins yet few surveyors do. New found irons and they are uncapped.
Mine is construction "layout" firms. They tell you they have an LS on staff but he never is available, "but he agrees with the crew chief.
0.02' discrepancy on a control point in a truck/container parking area that was built over a tidelands swamp.
The point was set in 2015 and we expected some settlement to occur. Now the agency wants to rehab the area and they want to use GPS for the vertical.
No freaking way.
But the emails persist without any from the "LS"!
Construction Staking crews showing up to a site without a metal detector and then complaining they can??t find primary project control points.?ÿ
Found the same thing yesterday as Mr. Just A., new?ÿrebar in the ground?ÿ- no caps.
Caps are for city slickers!
Seriously, I'd like aluminum foil caps, built on top of plastic caps. The foil being pretty thick, so as to block uv rays.
Go from 20 yr life span, to a lot more, real fast.

Try "Morasse" caps...

Nate,
There are a few outfits left that still make the foil caps we use to see on milk jugs.?ÿ Don't know how many you would have to buy to get "personalized" though.?ÿ They sure would be easy to install.
Maybe you're on to something...
Providing project control to the crew chief and him not using it

Telling a party chief three times how you want something done and still not getting it.
I have considered having caps to put on found monuments that say "FOUND BY A HARRIS" to give them an identity.
Providing search coordinates, and they are not used by crew.... Going to Set mons, and low and behold, they NOW found a monument....?ÿ We are a profession of perfection and sadly we are judged on the 1 time out of 1000 that we miss something or make a mistake. Cheers to perfection!
New irons and no caps are standard operating procedures for many surveyors. I find them all the time and have talked with a one of our peers and have been told they refuse to use them because they were not personally consulted or informed of the rules. I did some work in a brand new subdivision about 6 months ago and all the pins on the back lines had no caps. This subdivision was not complete but all the back corners were in place and not a single cap.

That's the lever you need to get the guy in front of the board.?ÿ
Back to the OP, I agree found Mon case is not a complete description.?ÿ Another one that bugs me.?ÿ Original Subdivision plat that states " Set City standard Monuments "X22"?ÿ at all center line intersections and City Standard Monuments"Y22"at all property corners per city standard drawings".?ÿ ?ÿ Jp?ÿ
X22??s must have been the 60ds and Y22??s were probably 2?square wooden stakes...

Hey, when you find an uncapped rebar:
