I don't know how to download the 1st pic, but I'd like that on my wall.
Just stare at the pics for a bit, and tell me what it does for you.
It about made me cry. I grew up doing this.
Maybe I'd have been happier, being a cactus farmer.....

The saddest thing is the absence of tips. I wonder if they were lost, removed, or broken off in the bob.
Thank you Doug. It sure makes you think... all the places those have been. If a plumb bob could talk.....
Those look like they've been around the block a few times. 😉
I have a box in the shed that has roughly 25-30 bobs in that condition.
Something I picked up along the way.
Don't know what to do with them and not worth scrap metal price or posting on line with them. (I'm have been done and over with eBay for sometime now)
I have thought of making a mobile of considerable size with them along with some old steel tapes in another box.
It would have to be an outdoor mobile.

Reminiscing about your youth, I see. Ya should have included the pics of your younger days. 😉
Natester driving for the GLO...
Young Natester with chaining pins (second from upper right) Uncle Paden on extreme left. (Standing)
He, he, he....
Real surveyors don't use gammon reals.
Hey! Is that TDD on the instrument?

Those are some beauties. Right proportions and everything.
I had a beautiful old Dietzgen that my dad gave me. I piddled it off in the Alaska bush about 13 years ago, and for all my frantic searching I couldn't find it before the helicopter came.
He was kind enough to replace it with a new CST bob. Now I love my dad, but I HATE that plumb bob. How they could screw up the proportions and feel of a lump of brass, I have no idea, but this thing is the devil's own. You've gone and made me all emotional Nate...
We used to have a small box of points in the back room. Not sure where they are now, perhaps still back there. Perhaps tossed by some Rodman who was sent to clean out the back room on a rainy day.
