My first day off today in quite awhile... got to sleep in until 7, pure luxury. I'm Back in Oregon for a week off before heading back to the North country.
Posted a few photos here from the latest gig at Independence creek ... Autumn has definitely set in there.
An awesome survey.

Liz had some sort of terminator style 9mm with laser beams ... not sure of the model...
I carried a titanium 12 gauge shotgun made in Turkey with 50 caliber sabot rounds... and the other guys carried Dirty Harry's...Now I'm not much of a gun guy ... it's more of a pain in the arse moving it through airports and such but pretty much a necessity out there so I just deal with it..the thoughts of the guy killed in Denali a few weeks ago weighed on our minds out there and there were more then a few grizzlies on this project site.
Liz spent the days by herself in camp and we would loop around the camp in the morning on the way to work to do a bear check and a few days ago we chased a big bugger over a saddle that was moving in too close. We flew all our garbage back to Kotzebue to eliminate that issue.
:good:
We used these ones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_spray thay are easy to carry but their "shooting distance" is not as long. And when the furry thing comes to you that close you may forget that you have the spray 😀
We were not allowed to bring the spays inside the helicopter, so we kept them with tripods in a basket attached on a side of our helicopter
Excellent photos, your jobs always look so fun. I love the pic of the cook with the 9 mm.
sometimes we have bear spray around ... and it has come in handy in a couple incidents... but a hassle to transport by air on small planes and airliners
Awesome pictures and a great place to be surveying. Thanks for sharing!
