It is a little earlier than I had planned, but as of today, I am totally on my own. I hope I can look back in a few years and say, as I have heard many of you say, that it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I have been in business for a little over a year, although I have held a full-time job in addition until today. The Lord has blessed me with enough work to be able to pay the bills. I just pray that the phone continues to ring.
Congrats! I was in the same position in 2008. Still working for myself and supporting a family of four. Still like it and never want to work for others again. Good luck.
Congrats
I went on my own in 2007, and while it can be a bit of a roller coaster, it has overall been an excellent experience, and I look forward to more. Best wishes to you!
Congratulations David.
I have been "solo" per say, since August 2007. In the time since, there have been a few times that I have had employees, and for the past two years, I hav been teaming up with another solo surveyor for jobs that are just too big for one man to handle.
It has been a roller coaster, but I do enjoy it.
Welcome to the world of being a small business owner.
2002 for me! I do share a survey tech now with another surveyor, but 80% solo.
Don't be afraid of the big jobs, you'll find a way to get them done.....:-O
Been "solo" since 1985 (it was NOT really planned, just happened).
It was the best (and the worst) thing that could have happened to at the time.
Like Big Al says, "it can be a roller coaster" (and it HAS BEEN).
All things considered...I would not change a thing (in that regard anyway).
I am now fully UN-EMPLOYABLE, and I'm okay with that. I have a reasonable handle on what I know, and an even better handle on what I DON'T know (which is a LOT).
Find a niche, and FILL IT!

Congrats!
I went out on my own just last month. I've been staying pretty busy. Hope it continues as well. No reason to think that it won't. God always provides.
Matt
Going solo was the smartest business decision I ever made. I've not one regret, not one.
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
Wow Dave! I know what that means for you and a few others. Congrats.
