I just returned from the court house and it made me think of other surveyors and how far their office is to the nearest court house. I know many areas have info on line so you can research from your desk but we don't, so trips to the court house are a daily part of my routine.
property line to property line 32 steps
front door to front door 148 steps.
about 275+/-steps from the office
about 250 +/- steps from my house.
both are a very brief walk.
500 feet, more or less...............
A 7-iron to the Court House. Three title companies within a pitching wedge. City Engineer is a 60 degree loft wedge.:-P
About 12 miles.
about 20 miles by car, but 0' by internet for research.
2 blocks for me. Also within those two blocks are about a half dozen law offices.
About 10 miles. But rarely have to make the trip.
A brisk ten minute walk.
Same as you, Don.
Plus a number of towns I work in have assessors record on line. I do a lot research at night when the sites seem much quicker.
One hour drive over a mountain pass if the weather is good.
:good: :good:
I'm also a 1-hour drive from that same courthouse that DWolfe has to cross the mountain pass to reach. Only in my case, no mountain pass. Just a nice trip straight down a valley alongside a lovely river.
Maryland: as close as the nearest internet access
DC: The records I need are at the DC Surveyors Office - 90 second walk to subway station, 40 minute ride, 60 second walk.
It's a big county isn't it Bill?
700 feet to the office where the deeds are.
1100 feet to the courthouse.
About a 10 minute walk and depending on how I hit a couple of traffic lights, a 2 minute to 5 minute drive.
With multiple construction projects, it took me about 45 minutes to get to the Superior Court yesterday. On a good day, 30 minutes.
The Registry is right next door. It's almost 100% online.
Now if they would just scan the town books and the probate...
WOW!!
Some of you guys are REALLY close.
I'm about 7375'/1.4mi/1320smoots door to door and I thought I was close. Add in variables for parking availability and getting in to the actual Clerk's office and it will be more. Monthly subscriptions to online files start at $50/month here, and only go to 1967 so it's not really worth it for me.

Yep, it's a big county-- and mostly beautiful, too! Certainly an interesting county to live in.
