I Have a topcon Hiper Pro
Worked perfect for 5 years
I now get an "autonomous" between 9 am and 3 pm
Some days all day "autonomus"
I had all the latest firmware down load to the base and rover but that does not help.
Any idea of what is causing the problem and wshat to i need to do to maintain a fix.
i have no obstructions, have 9+ visible GPS and Glonass most times.
any suggestions or help will do
If using as an rtk rover is the radio communication working well?
yes the radio communication is working well
I am using a FC-2000
When I use the option for Glonass only it seems like I get a periodic fix but a limited amount of satelittes are visible to have the fix for a long period.
I am located at 18°10'40.10"N and 63° 8'17.49"W
Does it have something to do with the position of the GPS satelites during the day?
Any suggestions will help
Any thoughts kevin?
Take a hand-held scanner to the site and see if someone is stepping on your frequency.
I understand that GLONASS recently added a leap second, while GPS did not. So the clocks are offset. Caused my Liecas to fail to initialize some of the time. Firmware upgrade to fix was just a couple months ago.
So I suggest you turn off the GLONASS (if that is possible) and see if it initializes.
I tried changing frequencies but no luck.
The problem exists across the island with my system. Other Surveyors not having the problem.
I will try turning off the glonass. But GPS alone seems to be where the problem is
This happened to a set we had (oldest gps we had, it was a hiper). Called the dealer and tried numerous solutions and still didn't help. Sent it off to see what the problem was and the mother board was fried and going to cost 5k per receiver to get fixed. Decided to get new equipment and they are now collecting dust on a bookshelf.
Clear the nvram
turn off the unit and hold the fn button down while turning it back on for about 5 seconds, wait 5 minutes or so and you should be good to go (if you have a base do it to the base also)
Hope it works. have a great day!

and several times to the shop..
We finally discovered it was the transmitter antenna (internal connection) on the base. While it was cool, it seemed to operate normally. As the day rolled along it would puss-out.
It was a relatively inexpensive (900 buck) fix.
PS - You could almost predict when it would start malfunctioning; relatively short (under 2000') shots would start floating.
Reset the NVRAM hundreds of time and let sit for half hour plus but that did not solve the problem

Yes we predict when it will happen so we will try to work around it but it limits our time. May be a problem with the antena so I will monitor the system although I am not covinced it is the tempurature as I placed it in an Airconditioned vehicle to cool but it did not solve the problem.
The problem seems to be time related - apparently when certain satelites come into view.

Thanks Nate: How do I turn off SV49?
Jham, I'm interested in working on your hipers. Maybe buying them. Are they Hiper+ or are the Hiper lites?
Drop me an email. They may be shot, but I'd like to look.
Nate
Not interested in selling at the moment, I believe the problem is a simple configuration issue or I am tracking a bad satelitte as yous suggested. How do I turn off SV49?

Go to sky view, and the menu to the right of sky view is satellite view, or something like that. You can view the S/N ratio, (That's signal to noise ratio) and there you can hit 49, and click the disable button.
