So I'm running Sokkia GRX2 with Carlson Surveying data collection.
New to network roving, we installed a base on our building.
The network company are topcon, sokkia dealers. We noticed we were getting different results fr their Magnet to my Carlson collectors. By around 0.5' hz
We got together today with Carlson rep and Network rep and discovered the network rep running magnet had his projection set to NAD83 (2011) with the capability to toggle to NAD83 (CORS96). When he toggles to96 the coordinates shift and match up closely to OPUS and Carlson reps data.
Carlson SurvCE doesn't have the ability to toggle to and from 2011 to CORS96, as it is always in CORS96.
The Carlson rep said we shouldn't be seeing 0.5' of difference between the corrections.
Also interesting to me the OPUS & ngs sheets for mon in that area show Ref as NAD83 (2011)
Do any of you have any similar experiences or insight?
What does a dara sheet show as the difference 2011-96? The 96 value will be down the page under SUPERCEDED.
Not sure where you are located, but when I see 0.50 feet difference, I would suspect it is a matter of grid-ground conversion rather than those particular datums.
As it appears YOU are closely matching opus, I would venture to guess you are in the clear, however with any new technology test, test, test!
Everyone is seeing those issues, but at the end of the day YOU need to learn what system YOU are using and YOU need to take charge, learn what is going on, decide what you want to use, make sure it will work with your work flow how you want it to and realize that the network will continue to shift over time, it isn't a static system.
Each shift over time (T) of the NAD 83 system will put a different coordinate on a point that is on the ground, it's up to the surveyors to decide how they need to handle each new T value for a point.
Just taking numbers out of a box and running with them has caused lots of problems in my area, more vertical than hz, .5' is quite a bit larger than what I'm seeing from 93-2011.
And by the way, it's really good that you are paying attention to it, wish others would dig into it also
It was a bit disheartening to discover that my control stations are moving. I thought I was the standard... Mine is stationary, others are moving!
0 well!
