I have a project going on right now and every time we go back to the base we have a massive amount of bird scat on the base. The site we are working on is fenced in and guarded so we leave the 2 meter tri-pod up for the duration of the project. When we go to set the antennae in the slot it is full of bird scat again. Anybody have any solutions (besides a shotgun, site doesn't allow firearms) that would deter Mr. Pellican Poops Alot from using the base as it's perch?
Furthermore, since there is scat on the top of the receiver itself many times when we pick up the base, does the bird interfere with signal/accuracy of the gps unit? Just curious. Not sure if there is any correction in Least Squares for that one.
Place a plastic shopping bag over the receiver. It keeps the rain off, as well as the bird $hit.
A 99 cent shower cap works well too. The elastic keeps it from blowing away.
I [sometimes] use a Spike Radome on my Base Station.

That of course ONLY works when the Base is in use.

I wonder sometimes if that one shot that just isn't quite as accurate as the others could be related to a bird on the base during the shot. I don't know how much affect those boogers have on GNSS signals, but I've been coming home to find my internet base covered in bird $#!+ more than once.

Hello Cee Gee,
I used to live in Jefferson, we use to go to Damriscotta lake a lot, fished up in Jackman, JoMary Wilderness.... In your picture, where are you set up?
Get a replica of an owl or owl decoy and set beside your base.
Holy bat___it Tompkins! Owls are supposed to work - have to keep it below the antenna though.
Does Pelican taste like chicken?
A dead pelican hanging close to the unit might do the trick.
honest, it would....
I would simply find a better place and set a new a control point....
