You can come out now. The stone is right there by the post hole diggers. Silly me, it must have been right on top!

We found what appeared to be a tie-rod (or piece thereof) 3/4" x24" long set vertical over the stone that you see in the background, near the mule shoe- the stone was at the bottom of the hole as he has it excavated shown in the photo. After we got enough water on it to get the clay slime off, I thought I could see a dim "X" - about 3/4"x3/4" on the side that was facing up. He wasn't so sure.- it was really faint. the position fit the record within 0.6' - subd. corner from the late 191?s -
-lot of water running thru the strata- hence the 3" trash pump hose sticking out of the hole.
