Someone asked yesterday and I will start off the conversation with what little I know regarding GLONASS vs. LightSquared.

LightSquared frequencies 1525-1559 MHz

This frequency was set aside for space based radio navigation to broadcast low power correction and supplementary signals.

But they will be nice guys and start out at 1525-1536 MHz.

But at the same time they are making an end run around the FCC to get International approval to do as they wish in the entire spectrum.

GPS L1 operates around the 1575 MHz frequency, I don't have the +/- handy.

GLONASS L1 operates around 1602 MHz frequency, but only one in view satellite broadcasts at 1602. The other possible 14 operate at a separate higher or lower frequencies within the band of 1595 to 1609 MHz. GLONASS is farther away from LightSquared so will be affected less.

Galileo L1/E1 operates in the 1559 to 1592 MHz range straddling GPS L1. Their lower end signals will fare worst than GPS.

I ave checked some of my L1 only antenna specs and they are tuned to receive between the 1525 to 1585 MHz band. That was so a single antenna could also pull in your corrections. No one has tested whether an antenna tuned to a narrower range would be LightSquared resistant without modification to the receivers.

Javad is very keen on GLONASS so anything he says is possible may be based on having to depend more heavily on GLONASS signals.

It is aid that GPS brings $100 billion dollars in value to the US economy every year. Over the next few years this will be wiped out at a loss of $1 trillion. Then add the replacement cost jsut to the military, in excess of $1 trillion. This is money we do not and will not have. Every military GPS system will have to be replaced and there is no money budgeted for any intitial testing to even know if anything can actually replace what we have.

The profit George Soros will gain from the use of this band width for internet etc. pales to the profit he gains from totally destroying the US military and economy in one single action.

How does Mr. Soros fit into this conundrum?

Soros is the money behind LightSquared and pushed for it at the White House.

In my mind he is an enemy of the United States and anyone who aids or adheres to an enemy of the US commits treason.

Philip Falcone has enough of his own money not to need any from Soros

My 1st email was fired off under the heading of "Homeland Security Breach" to the local State Senator and State Representative was nearly worded the same back in May when I read an article of the plan.

The one on the committee over the hearings has not ever responded and the one on the committee over the money that supports the FCC has responded every time I send any news.

Keep your eyes open, cause around here, new towers are going up real fast.....

Narrower Range

Consumer and general navigation devices look at a narrower range, that is why they are less effected by the potential interference. High preciusion needs to look much wider. If you narrow the range the performance drops.
Even Javad and LSQ's Harriman said that they do not have a solution for the upper 10MHz in question. That upper 10MHz was what was tested earlier this year and showed substantial interference across all types of recivers. The modified proposal to start (note "start") in the lower band, and the quicky filters (which may very well work for the lower band on a small range of devices) is a stopgap move to get approval. The upper band has not been taken off the table.
So go ahead and buy the quicky filter for the lower band, and then have to go through this all again in a few more years with the upper band. The military and aviation will not accept a solution that relies on glonass; whatever fix (if even possible) must be demonstrated to work with GPS only.
This is just a bad plan all around.

Narrower Range

Far:

I wished you hadn't leaked the filter thing. I am sure we
will get taxed on the new filters.
