man, it was nice to find that one toggle (and i knew it was gonna be a toggle in some weird place) to make this linework go in smartworx.

took a year off after a decade getting increasingly worn out by corporate office surveying. just hooked up with some former coworkers who are too busy to be farming out their surveying work, so they bought the gear and now i'm a partner in my own surveying company.

it's really good- like, life affirming- to be back out in the field again. a year ago i woulda told you i was done forever.

part of what convinced these guys that i could do it "my way" was showing them what field work is possible vs. what we/they were used to with the crews at the old place. problem being i'm already so buried in work i haven't had time to get more than the "seat of the pants" brush-up on this robot and rtk. but it's coming slowly, and today i finally got linework. wow, is it easy and flawless. just dropped an ascii and a dxf file into carlson, hit "triangulate" and it's practically done. maybe 5 minutes of flipping faces.

what's really amazing to me is how many people out there have this stuff at their fingertips and don't use it. (like 10+ crews worth at the old gig).

Yup, having linework come in with proper breaklines etc is really nice. I am convinced that for the majority of people you need some time drafting before you can suck less at doing topo and such. Glad you're having fun out there!

It's a real rush when you get Carlson all set up and it works!!
There's SO MUCH power there. Even just adding the 4 basic codes (B, E,JPN and CLO) can cut production time in half. AND when you get it to draw 2d an 3d polys to use as you need, you will really rocket off.
You'll feel like the King Of The World when all your line work, symbols and labels come in on just one run through the coordinate file. Office production time will be drastically reduced giving you bigger profits. And THAT is a good thing!!
