This didn't seem to happen as much. I was on vacation and the office got an email for a bid proposal. I'm not sure why we would have been on the list for this email. Usually with our corporate clients we get jobs by long association and this isn't a company we had ever done anything for.

The job is massive, and a long way out of town. Looking at it there would be no way to possibly bid it without way more info, not sure what the email really wanted reading through it. Clearly even to begin to bid it would take days and almost certain to not get it, I know a few local guys who would be perfect for it and no doubt they will have the best chance.

At the end of the email there are a bunch of hoops to jump through to reject the offer. I put it in the circular file eventually and one got a hey, you have to respond that we aren't interested. No I don't, I don't need to do someone's work for them.

If they want to call I'll tell them thanks, but otherwise I'm done.

Either some office drone had to say that he had contacted X number of companies with the RFP, or it was some sort of scam attempt.

There is a virus/malware deal going around that we have been getting. The email looks like it is from a past client (that has been infected) with an attached proposal. In the subject it says: xxx proposal (secure). I didn't open it and sent it straight to the IT guys because I wasn't expecting anything from this individual. The next day I got the same email from another client. I called both and they informed me they had been hacked and apologized. Be careful out there in cyberworld!

That is interesting, I hadn't thought of it as a scam, it LOOKED legit. However, it would explain a couple of things.
