does rideability testing on asphalt pavement? Ky DOT does their own, and they have reported that a project our paving company paved is way out of spec, but it doesn't appear to be just from riding it. Need some outside consultant to check it and see what's going on.

I'm assuming they have some data indicating that the roadway is out of "spec" with some published or contractual minimum/ maximums.

Most testing labs have access to a "profilograph":

This use to be standard procedure on FAA projects and FHWA stuff. I'm not so sure now, I've been out of the paving business for over 10 years now.

There is a Canadian branch of Fugro Surveys called "Roadware" that does exactly that for the Louisiana DoTD. They use our RTN for control of their gizmos along with Applanix gyro packs.

You might consider getting a mobile scan done. That way you would have some hard data to back you up.

Paden's California profilograph is the way to go. Did they provide a trace? What's your specs? blanking band, in/mile, etc. It's tedious, but not impossible to check their work.

Where I work specs vary with urban/rural/fixtures etc. Paving contractors are not as afraid of grinding as they once were. Thus, they often have some $$ set aside for profile correction.
