@mightymoe

Pipes were far more common than rods as monuments prior to the 60's in this area as well.

@dmyhill

ding ding!?ÿ Astute observation.?ÿ And a little humorous...

These are photos Kent sent me the other day from one of his projects in residential Austin.?ÿ Although I don't believe the work is complete, Kent's correspondence centered on the criteria I presented here.?ÿ I don't know if he has elevated the dignity of the older rebar to "plat original" status although I think he implied as much.

I just thought it would be interesting to see other opinions without an extraneous 'McMillimeter' factor.?ÿ I myself might be tempted to consider the "older" rebar as exactly that...older.?ÿ But I would need additional corroborative evidence before I held it as a corner original to the platting.

I was just seeing if a Kent flavored post would draw a different reaction if it was generically wrapped.?ÿ

@james-vianna

And the use of "deformed".?ÿ I've never called them anything but rebar - nor has anybody else in my work experience.

@notsomuch

Prior to deformed rebar it would have been twisted square bar stock. I have seen it on a few old demolition projects, but have never seen it as a survey marker.

@notsomuch

Just to split hairs the term deformed?ÿhas specific connotations.?ÿ Not that any of us that use them for corners would be familiar with.?ÿ Check out ASTM A305-47T.
