Here is what I use

Zareba Yellow Jacket Fence Charger

I put a quick connector to the base battery. So, it hooks up real fast.

I drive a rebar at the base, and leave it up 18" or so, and hang the fence charger on it. This provides a ground.

Then, I went to lowes and got 4' fiberglass rods, and drive them around the base setup.

I have never had an animal get my base. I can set it where I like.

I use an oversized 40 amp SLA battery at the base.

It works.

They are all waiting for you to leave so they can snack on your flagging.

That was my thought. The ribbon, instead of a deterrent, is an attractant.

I've been there, usually one side of the fence is safe, if it isn't and there are no other safe places, I use my truck, set the antenna on it on a mag mount use it as the base and spend the day on the four-wheeler.

Of course, you need a four wheeler to make that work:-(

Not only that, there have been situations (Luckily, not mine) where the cattle got sick from eating the flagging and the rancher forwarded vet bills to the surveyor's office.

It's enough to scare me away from using it near them.

Is that method reliable in recovering control on later visits? With my luck, they would decide to scratch themselves on the truck.

You tote two sacks of cubes with you when you go, shake them and lead them 1000' away, pour them out, and haul ass back.

90,

Cowtonomous? Maybe you can use Star*Net to do a least squares adjustment on your MultiCow Anomolies and CowDop uncertainties. Where's Holy Cow while all of this is going on?

Same here. Cattle are curious little critters, ok not so little. I often have to deal with open range country and there are no fences. I've had a friend help me out whose is used to cows just stand by the equipment while I do my solo things, but also just risked it a few times and that is scary. It just seems that when they see a truck in "their" yard, they check it out and hope it's dinner time. And almost like lemmings, they all follow

Good one Dave. Here in podunkville it's Andy Devine Days this weekend. They had the Cow Plop open house social at a local boot store yesterday. The parade is tomorrow, but we're supposed to get another 1 to 2 inches of rain between tonight and tomorrow night. Guess it's like a Cow pizzing on a flat rock to pizz on their parade, eh

Oh yea, the rodeo is tomorrow afternoon. Always kind of fun and it's part of the PBR tour so these guys are the real deal, and they have all the other fun rodeo stuff. (the county fairgrounds also has a beer tent by the way)

What I do is set the base on the truck, near a control point with a nonsense number, like truckcontrol, locate the control point and calculate coordinates for the truck point.

Restart the base with the new control point and locate two existing points making sure the truck base checks in and then you are good to go. Takes about 15-20 minutes to get it all done usually, but better than having cattle (or worse horses) tearing apart the equipment.:-(

And no the truck point will not be used again-a one time thing. 😉

Bears are curious as well. What I use while out hunting or if I need to cache stuff (bears love plastic gas cans) in bear country.

Light weight portable electric fence

Only draw back is they need to touch it with their nose, otherwise they can run right through it so I don't think it would work against a stampede.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

Family reunion

You might not guess it, but we're all related. Even Bessie. Ever since she bought that red coat down at Penney's she hasn't been the same. Easy to find her in a crowd, though.

Family reunion

I use Nate's method. Easy to set up and have not had a base disturbed yet by the fan club.
