I am considering some way to attach a hand warmer to the back side of my LT-30 such that it will still attach to the pole cradle and most importantly such that it will operate for more than one hour in this cold weather. ?ÿOrdinarily I appreciate the excuse to come in out of the cold, but sometimes I like to get at least a couple more hours of productivity. ?ÿAny ideas?

Your data collector dies??ÿ Out of all the equipment I use the data collector easily lasts the longest.?ÿ I'm pretty could run 2 full days without a charge.?ÿ Is yours somewhat old?

No, not really old. ?ÿI have always struggled with batteries a little with this one, ?ÿsince purchased in 2014.

It looks to me like you have another week of really hard weather before it breaks, a little. If it's really that cold I have to wonder if the duct tape would stay stuck. If it did, you would end up with a summer of sticky residue regrets. Perhaps some rubber bands wouldn't be too obtrusive.?ÿ

Probably you need a fresh battery. Even at single digit temperatures it should last more than an hour.

Turn off unneeded features if you have any.?ÿ I'm always careful to kill the wifi, bluetooth, and 3g modem if I'm running the robot since it only uses the 2.4 ghz radio.

Thanks fellas. ?ÿMy wife also suggested rubber bands. ?ÿOf course I told her that they might get in the way of my screen, but now that you mention it, maybe I should give it a try.

Slip the datacollector inside your jacket to keep it warm when it's otherwise just idling in the cradle.?ÿAlso good way to keep a spare pare of gloves toasty for a quick swap out when the fingers start freezing up.?ÿI haven't had any problems down to -25F if the battery is in good shape though the LCD screen?ÿmay get painfully slow. Five minutes in my jacket and it's usually functioning normally. If not, time for a new battery. ?ÿ?ÿ

No, No, No.?ÿ No d*ct tape on anything you ever want to clean up again.?ÿ I use (expensive) theatrical gaffer tape when I must attach something temporarily to a surface that I want to clean up later.

If you do use a hand warmer pack, wrap the whole bundle in something to insulate it and let the heat go where it is needed instead of out into the open air.

Thanks again to everyone.?ÿ My DC battery is only one year old.?ÿ I had the same trouble with the original battery from 03.2014.?ÿ

I use both Bluetooth & Wi-Fi for all my shots with this setup, which is really sweet.

I don't have time to put it in my jacket between shots on a 50' grid corn field topo.

At any rate this worked well for me today.?ÿ I opened the hand warmer and put it between the DC and the plastic wrapping that it came in to try to keep most of the heat on the battery.

I have an old goretex mitten that I drop it in as I move around, some hand warmers in it. I usually will have it under my coat as I drive anywhere on the 4-wheeler, there is also a padded pouch that I?ÿcan drop it into. I keep the mitten on it until I need a shot or to change descriptors if I'm doing topo.

There is just no way to keep them going very long. I have two battery packs and switch them out, I've learned that if you are in the field when it's cold you need the charger cable, I've had mine shut completely down and not be able to start it again. Plug it in and it fires right back up, but you can't do anything until the cable is plugged in. The hand warmers don't seem to work too well unless there is some insulation. All is ok until 20 degrees, below that watch out, I have a TSC2 and 3

This 2010 Anker battery in the Seco pouch (8143-22):

20180203 171857

With a charging cable:

20180203 172137

Should run for a long time.
