There is a huge difference in one's ability to review/proofread their own work versus tkat done by others.?ÿ Proof of that reality came my way yesterday while acting as the official reviewer for a certain nearby county.?ÿ Within the first five seconds of looking at the plat, I knew something was wrong.
The PLSS Township listed in the title block, the newly-written description and as shown for six labeled points on the plat was wrong by 10 townships or roughly 60 miles.?ÿ That would put it in a completely different county.?ÿ The roads idenified along the sides of the tract provided the clue to what was the correct S-T-R of the job site.?ÿ Even that was a bit confusing as the road naming practice was a mix of a road named by one county and the other by the county of the jobsite.?ÿ The one road was on the county line between them.
A simple typo somehow turned into a royal mess.
That's one reason I've always liked to have someone else review my work.?ÿ Especially since computers took over drafting.?ÿ I've looked at a plat on the screen for, what seems like, hours and then as soon as the plotter starts I see the error as plain as day.

This is one of the biggest problems I have working solo. It is much easier to see someone else's errors than your own.
But one sure way to find your own errors is to issue the plan, and email it to the client.
All your previously invisible errors will now stick out like sore thumbs!
One trick I learned from this site was to read backwards to find spelling mistakes.?ÿ You are not mislead by the content that way.
I refuse to be the only set of eyes on filed documents.?ÿ You're always going to miss the errors you thought you fixed until someone else points them out....
I never make mitstakes, so I don't poorfread anything.

You nailed it. ?????ÿ
?ÿ
I'll bet I look at 50-60 pdfs before I ever print to paper.?ÿ Then, after I make 10 copies, sign & seal them, and as I'm stuffing them in the envelope to mail, I note I have the wrong county in the title block....
Been using a checklist and spell check for many years. ?ÿIt forces me to actually check my work.
I almost committed a similar error many years ago.?ÿ It was the final reading (aloud) when I heard myself say 27.?ÿ A number from 23 to 26 would have been expected, but, there was no 27 in that county.?ÿ Came that close to putting it out the door with an error.
Have caught myself having an error in the job description listed on an invoice when simply copying an invoice from another job to modify it to fit the current job.?ÿ Never had a client call to ask if maybe I sent them someone else's invoice, so they must not look at anything but the bottom number anyway.?ÿ Have made the same mistake on section corner reports.
For descriptions & narratives, I like to have Word read them to me.
A luxury most may not have, but I never send anything out the day I finish it.?ÿ
There is simply nothing like a?ÿ"test mylar"!
