I hate to sound like a Jeopardy show, but I had a client tell me that he is used to surveys costing about $300 in the Chicago area.

Is this true? In the land of $5 hot dogs?

I'm from Wisconsin, and we have to abide by Wis. Adm. Code AE-7, which says, among other things, we produce a map.

Everytime I hear a surveyor talking about getting young people into the professsion for the love of it, because the money won't attract them, I say to myself: "only because surveyors choose for it to be that way".?ÿ

Antecdote to the thread;

Had to have been over a year ago, or better, there were Criagslist ads, here in Houston, looking for crews to travel to Chicago to perform these type of survey. According to the ads, the crews could pick the surveys they wanted to do.

I can read about the PLSS surveys from JP and other thorough authors, California surveys from some really good registereds there, and some Florida surveys occasionally. I don't think you could cross that many regions and be able to understand the survey history, much less finish a survey per hour.

I'm reminded of the ending of "The Sun Also Rises"

Oh, Jake,ƒ?? Brett said, ƒ??we could have had such a damned good time together.ƒ?? Ahead was a mounted policeman in khaki directing traffic. He raised his baton. The car slowed suddenly pressing Brett against me. ƒ??Yes,ƒ?? I said. ƒ??Isnƒ??t it pretty to think so?ƒ?? ƒ?

It would take more effort to get me willing to go to Chicago than many can afford.

And with that being said, I would need to be subdued to get me there, cause I'm not willing to go there.

Since most everything in the areas I work is now available online, $300 is probably an average of what is owed before I leave the office.
