Took in a job on an area lake yesterday. Lot is in a recorded subdivision done in 1985 by a good surveyor. Lot is 100' on the road, 364 on the East, 289 on the West, and 126 at the lake. I've worked in other blocks before, and no problems.

So I bid the job at the standard lot job rate, plus 10% for a "rush" to do it today.

So me, Robbie (the robot), and a 14 year old toe headed boy who shares my genetic material head out and knock out one job really fast and get to the lake by 9:30.

The house looks large from the lot, but I'm more interested in setting up the street, so I find my two corners and one each way just for grins. Everything is spot on.

Now, I've learned over the years that dragging chain over hill and dale with a hand compass is a losing proposition on lot jobs with no fences, or a helluva lot of fences, so I don't in good areas, I calculate them in a fraction of the time and stake them out. That is what I'm going to do here.

So, as I approach the house to start the sketch, I notice about 15 damn house corners on the front, and only one 90° corner. Great. The garage which is detached, but you can't tell it until you're right up on it, then the deck for no damn reason between them, then I get around back. Holy Crap Batman!

Most of the lake lots have a decent amount of relief, so I'm used to it, but a freaking damn near vertical lot, WTF?

So I crawl up and down this MF about 15 times in the course of the job mapping what had to have been 100 acres of pine timber slaughtered for this AH's deck, etc etc.

It took THREE FREAKING hubs to get to the back of a nominally 300' lot, and the first freaking shot was over 200'!!!!

So, 4 hours later, and two other buildings I didn't even know where on the place until I strapped it, and no less than 200 shots and 40 building corners, we finished. The realtor showed up (I like this realtor, she's good people). I told her thank you for the referral, but I way underbid this job. She asked why, it's all open (bull MF'n stuff!). The house takes up the 100' lot's width. It ain't open.

Then she tells me that the house originally started out as a 700 sq ft two story cabin. I just calced the area on the house (ground floor) and it's over 3500 at this point with another easy grand up top, and that's not counting the decks and other bullstuff out there.

I'll make about $50 on this. That sucks. It should have been double what I bid, and since there is no lender in this million dollar deal, another 5 c notes wouldn't have broken the bank at all.

SMH! It's time to start drinking. Yall have a safe and happy holiday weekend fellas!
