I would like to stake out to a DTM with my TSC3. I've got a TIN that I've exported out of Carlson 2014 into a LandXML file. Trimble manual has this cryptic phrase "Note-DTM's in a LandXML file are only supported in the Map, not in stakeout" Later in the manual it has a section entitled "To show the cut/fill to a DTM in the map:" and goes on to explain that process. Now I'm going to try this out but I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with this using an XML file and getting a cut/fill to the surface in the Map mode of the TSC3?

TIA,

Doug

If you have access to TBC, I would suggest bringing in the LandXML file and create a *.ttm for the DC.

I do have TBC but am trying to avoid the gyrations of multiple conversions.

You can export a ttm directly from Carlson. Under the surface menu, select Import/Export and select the Export to Trimble TTM at the bottom.

Carlson survey will export to a TTM or a TN3 ... I'm using 2014 standalone with AutoCAD and it is in the Surface menu > Import/Export Surface Data >

Gentleman, thank you for your help! Sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees (especially here in the Pacific NW).

As a QC procedure, may I suggest you have a look at that Carlson to Trimble *.ttm file. I seem to recall loss of fidelity for the more complex 3D models.
