I never post these kinds of things, but here's something that I will be looking at on Wednesday (NOT a survey per se, but interested in some of the Corners as part of a related retracement). How would you like to “BID” on this sucker?

Legal Description in Original Federal Patent (issued in 1903):
All of Section 39 in TxX, RxX, SLB&M, containing 159.37 acres.

The parcel in question was surveyed by the GLO in 1896 (approved 1899), and is bounded by 25 Stone Monuments (one of which is a Standard Section Corner on a Township Line). At least 3 of the corners (including the Section Corner that we need) appear to be under water (a reservoir).

There IS Federal Interest Lands bounding the parcel in question in a spot or two (of course).

There IS a 1 Chain County Road Running through it (40-50 Stone monuments set in 1890 using a compass).

Elevation ranges from about 5300 to maybe 6100-6200 feet, some of it STEEP.

Gambles Oak, Mountain Maple, Mountain Mahogany, Service Berry, and probably some Chaparral (also Rattlesnakes, Scorpions, and maybe a Mountain Lion or two, shucks, maybe even a bear).

A review of the County Records DOESN'T indicate that there has been ANY other (newer) surveys performed on this parcel, or even done in the area, EVER!

We're pretty sure that we “have” an Original ¼ Corner about a ½ mile East of the parcel (originally set in 1856, re-established in 1879, recovered in 1896, and again in the 1980s) to get us started!

Oh yeah, it runs ~2 miles up a rather deep (and narrow/winding) canyon, so RTK will be iffy at best.

Yeehaw...it doesn't get any better than this!

Edit...should only be in the high 90s though...

I'm wondering what kind of fish might be in that reservoir.....

You know, have the proper equipment for the job since GPS might not be working well.

Well, I'd consider RTK indispensable. For this job. IF nothing else, to help me SEARCH, while wading. And, I'd want WIRELESS RTK, (Bluetooth) so that nothing could drag in the water. And, I'd want some lath, in a boat, to plumb over those rocks, to design a tight traverse through. Sounds like a good one!

I love it. Static the hell out of it. Sell your expertise and the price will be what it has to be.

Bid this (160 acres) ...Loyal...

Time to call in the helicopters and airboats. Then you can be the feature story in some survey magazine. Nuff said.

I've got the boat for you

Actually it's not mine. The fellow who owns it was camped next to me this weekend. The whole rig (boat, motor and trailer) weighs +/- 500 pounds.

Keith L.

Well that's the trick isn't it?

The parcel IS Section 39, so once ya got that nailed down, you're done!

Foggy

It's just a hypothetical (maybe even rhetorical) question to start with. I see lots of “bid this” posts, and thought that I would throw this out for fun.

Even a “simple” Boundary Survey would involve retracing at least a mile of the Township line, ALL of the exterior of Section 39 (25 stones), and the County Road (40+ stones). There is also on interior section line that should be retraced as well (AT the very least).

There are several other Private Land Claims in the Township (Sections 37, 38, & 40), that we ARE also interested in, but we have elected to start here.

At this point we are just trying to resolve the Township Line (there may be more than one MONUMENTED Line.

My “bid” to survey Section 39 would probably approach $1k per acre! That's WHY I DON”T “bid” on things like that. There's NO WAY to know what it's going to take, UNTIL you are DONE.

Hourly rate schedule with Not-exceed price of $50k to do all of the retracement and evaluation and produce a investigation report and plan for finalizing the survey. Negotiate the final not to exceed price one the IR and recommendations are available.

Flat bid, NFW.

🙂 Nope, but Loyal I would be up for the challenge.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone could retain a really difficult and challenging job, and get the force of this board to show up and collaborate in getting it done? Would be a hoot, and the client would benefit from some serious resource.... And we could get out and have a hell of a time doing the job and "networking" in the dark hours of the day.

I'll bring the Rocky Patels and Laugavulin for me and a few friends.
