I'm gradually working towards striking out on my own one day should that day come the carpet gets yanked out from under my feet. I've been building a shop to mobe out of, gradually acquiring my own equipment and software, taking on weekend jobs, mostly to just get some experience in the private sector. My surveying & drafting and people skills are my strength, the business end of it, not so much. I need to focus on my weeknesses less I be led like a lamb to the slaughter.
To cut to the chase, any of you out there willing to share samples of their professinal services agreements, invoice formats, that type of thing, that I can use as templates to come up with my own?
Your sage advice is always welcome.
The email in my profile is good.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers! Willy
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

The book "A Pocket Guide to Business for Engineers and Land Surveyors" by H. Edmund Bergeron has a very good sample contract in Chapter 8. I recommend this book generally for anyone going into business for themselves or otherwise entering into the management side.
Thank you Norman. I've ordered a copy.
I've acquired a small treasure trove of templates that I would be happy to share if you've expressed an interest and have good contact info. I won't forward anything containing any persona info.
Mine if you have something to share and havn't been able to find my email, is [email protected]
Thanks all and have a great weekend.
Willy out.

That is where you need to focus ALL of your efforts right now. If you don't, you will fail before you know what happened.
I know this all too well Jim. This is what I'm attempting to do. I've already experienced some hard lessons. The surveying end of it is by far, the easy part. I also know regardless of what I do, I will need to take some chances in order to be successful. That success will depend in large part, on how well prepared I am. Having a good professional services agreement is a good start, but it's only a start. I'm taking my time and preparing for that day, one little thing at a time.
Back in my presurveyor days, I use to use this line in my sales pitches: 'Most people don't plan to fail, they fail to plan.'
