I always like to try to understand construction staking from other geographic locations.  This looks like 3' offset to edge of concrete angle point, cut 1.61' to finish grade.  What's the 2.xx mark toward the bottom of the stake?

@frozennorth

someone else's added information.

not sure whose idea it was but I do know that site super is a retired surveyor so he won't let the idiot squad get too far from the shore.

you do see the awesome stake and nail preservation though too right?

@frozennorth

My guess would be the elevation of the stake. We always mark the elevations, usually on the back of the lath with the station, if any.

If the C-1.61 is to finish grade, I would say the 2.2 is to subgrade or top of base.

Yeah, I don't really see a problem either unless they disturbed the nail before getting the grading done.

Grading is not done.  The clod is clearly displaced and replaced almost to where it came from.

they pregraded the area, because they needed to do something for work and then 4 or 5 weeks later I showed up to help get the other stuff where it needed to be to keep the form guys working.

it's the life of construction staking.  woohoo.

Also, I'm a little jealous of you guys that use nails for your staking.  I've always assumed the contractor would get mad about popped tires if I littered nails all over the site.

What is the string that appears to be running under the stake?

As for elevations on hubs.  I tend to void that like the plague, if the contractor needs an TMB then I will gladly set one with the proper care.

@bstrand

you use hubs?

good luck in the frozen with that. this is all constructed minus the landscaping now, but I've never staked any other way unless it's blue tops or hub and tack for a more precise point with perceived persistence.

‍♂️

ive never seen an RCP joint that perfect before.
