I don't think I'll ever understand people.?ÿ Potential lawyer client spent almost two weeks going back and forth on whether she needed an update to an ALTA we did 10 years ago.?ÿ She eventually emailed the signed proposal with, "check's in the mail".?ÿ?ÿ
Then more time and, "how's the survey going?", which I replied that we don't do anything till we get a check.?ÿ Then she mentions their deadline, which is three weeks, including the Thanksgiving holiday. ?ÿI say that it??s possible, if there aren??t any major changes to the site, and she gets us the title package/commitment/docs now.?ÿ She has no idea what I need.?ÿ I send her the ALTA standards.?ÿ
That was two days ago.?ÿ No check, (must've gotten lost in the mail?), no emails, no calls, whatever
One of my old mentors was fond of saying, "Their lack of planning and preparation, does not constitute an emergency on my part."
I've been "waiting" on a zoning report for an ALTA I have in progress since February, 2022. It's funny because this was a "when will your survey be complete" almost two days after I requested the zoning report. Have invoiced the client for all work to date and all has been paid, still no zoning report to speak of.
It makes me wonder... how many times does the client get the preliminary ALTA and see enough to know they don't want any part of the property and cash out right then and there?
Currently have 3 ALTA surveys that all want zoning info but have yet to provide a zoning letter or report. Got to love them.
That's par for the course.?ÿ They want their ALTA, and usually ignore my emails when I mention the zoning report.?ÿ So I end up adding a note stating that no zoning report was provided.
To add to the story...
Before my ALTA is complete, (see post above about the zoning report), a different client has now requested a tree/topo survey of the same exact tract I'm doing an ALTA on.
My guess is their just needing contours because my client mentioned something of a structure being constructed on the site in the future.
I love two-fors.

twofers---a single word in my little corner of the world.
John Travolta begs to differ...

It is really common for Architects and Engineers to request an "ALTA Survey" when what they really want is a topo survey with boundary, including easements, etc.?ÿ When you ask for which Table As they want they go into their files and photocopy the last request for an ALTA.?ÿ?ÿ
What's even more fun is when a client's attorney requests a boundary survey and we agree on a price.?ÿ When the survey is complete and copies are delivered the attorney asks if there will be any additional cost to make it an ALTA.?ÿ DOH!!!?ÿ?ÿ

"You can get that to us by end of the day tomorrow. Right?"
No idea what's happening now, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised to get a call from another surveyor saying he's got this ALTA we did from 2010, and could we give him our CAD.
