And you bring points into the computer, there is a file made that associates the screen points, with the coord file.
So, if I start a job with desktop computer, then go to the field, and do a few extra ties, move some coords in the laptop, and then set corners, I found out that the POINTS MOVE command did not have association file. So, I moved the visible coord in the laptop, but it did not change the COORD VALUE, with it, due to the non existent Association file.
So, I set some corners wrong. In pavement. Bummer.?ÿ

How can I move back and forth, between computers, and keep the association file up to date?

Only have 2006 and may have changed, however, what you seek may be the *.crd file, and the in the point file utiities, wonderful routines, "update .crd file from drawing" and "update drawing from .crd file".
It's possible all you need to do is copy the .crd file, however, to be safe, perhaps the thing to do is to make sure the .crd file and the drawing are in sync on the first computer and then copy the drawing over, and update the .crd file on the 2nd computer.
I could be completely wrong.

Ya, the point moved in the drawing but not the coord / .crd file, which is where the ASCII coords get exported from.
Also look at "Settings - Configure - General Settings - Link points with CRD file"
That way, I believe, when you move points the CRD file is automatically updated.
I think you need to use ??move points? under the points drop down menu, not by using ??move? on CAD. ?ÿOne moves the point on screen AND the CRD, the other just moves the point on screen. ?ÿI learned this the hard way as well.

This works IF the association file is in order. IF you have moved the DWG file to another computer, and moved the CRD file, BUT not the Association file, then it STILL does not update the CRD file.

What you have to do when you move points in Carlson (I use 2020 but believe it was the same in 2009) is go to points>coordinate file utiiities>update crd file from drawing......or it sounds like that may be the problem.

Exactly.?ÿ I'll do that, and not even bother putting the crd onto the laptop.?ÿ When I get in the field, I'll do the Update CRD command, and it'll create a new crd file with the coordinates based on the dwg points.
Then when I transfer the field dwg back to the desktop, overwrite the desktop dwg, I'll run the Update CRD command again.
Similar to the old Softdesk/LDD Checkpoints command, (I think maybe.?ÿ It's been a long time since then for me)
I've been using Carlson 2010, it sounds to me like you are only moving the point attributes and not the actual coordinates.?ÿ I'm now using 2018.
In 2018, under the pull points pull down, there are two different options, adjust coordinates and move points attributes.?ÿ If you move the point attributes, you are not moving the point coordinates, just the text and symbols.
If you select adjust coordinates, a side bar should pop up and allow you to choose move points.?ÿ With that you can manually move the points and the coordinates to where you want them and the .crd file will update with the new coordinates.
Working between a lop top and a PC is not a big deal, but, to keep the files on both current, it's not that difficult but requires a few extra steps.?ÿ If you set or moved points on your lap top, when you go back to the PC, delete the points you moved from the .crd file on the PC and export an ASCII file with the moved points and new points shot in the field (assuming that you will not be stomping on point numbers) and then import them into the PC .crd file.
The other option, perhaps easier, is to delete all of the points in your .crd file on the PC, create an ASCII of all of the points in the .crd file on the lap top and import the ASCII into the empty .crd file on the PC.
It sounds more complicated than it really is but will only take a few short minutes.

There is the coordinate file.
There is the association file, that connects the above 2 files.
I'm wanting information about it, and how it works. The move command, under points pull down, works, when the association file is happy. When it's not, it does not move the underlying coord.

@jph I want both. I have goofed a job via this means. And, I don't want to do that again. And, RE making coords makes me nervous, as I want my coords and linework to be PERFECT, because acad likes that. I'm really just trying to make the Laptop-PC, and PC - Laptop totally identical.
With our huge thumb drives, I can see setting it all up on a thumb drive, and MOVING the thumb drive back and forth....
@ Rundatline, a VISABLE coord is what you get when you use DRAW LOCATE.
