Taking a break from SurvCE to spend some time with Topsurv (PC version). Upon attempting to check/set the backsight, I keep getting a warning that I "Must measure BS in Direct/Face1".

I'm in Direct/Face1. Anywone familiar with Topsurv who might have any ideas why this is happening?

RFC,

TopSurv requires a backsight check.

I understand you are in manual mode, testing. You need to just setup the backsight then enter zero horizontal angle hit set, then measure. It's been along time. Magnet is newer version, and has reduced the steps to setup.

Thanks, Lee.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I'm doing. After hitting Set, it beeps and sets the horizontal circle to zero. Then when I hit measure, it measures (or tries to), beeps a bunch, and returns the warning. It's very odd.

Sounds like you're almost there.

Are you providing the H angle, V angle, Slope Distance, then enter again?

You then should see the results of your backsight check dN, dE, dZ.

You may also turn off distance check, and set the angle only.

If you are testing only and without a license, then I suggest you download latest version of Magnet Field and test that in demo mode. There is a reason why old versions of software are replaced with updates....

Lee:
Did exactly that. Still no dice. I suspected something going on between the program and the gun, so tried another PC; worked perfectly. Noticed I was using 8.1 on the machine that worked...8.2.3 on the one that didn't, so moved back to 8.1. All good.
Thanks!

Is Magnet Field available for a PC to run in demo mode as TopSurv is? Not sure it would run on the antediluvian DC (Win CE 4.2) I'm using.

Yes, there is a PC version of Magnet and it will run in demo mode. I think the point cap is 25 points.

I have been able to bring in Customer's Magnet files that have a lot more than the 25 point max. Every thing work but you cannot add any more points. But you can look at raw data and even reprocess it if you have to edit some value.

Thanks very much. I've taken a brief look at the brochure, but think I'm getting away from my original objective (having and electronic field book in the form of a DC). Magnet seems like way overkill for what I need right now (Optical TS only). My hardware probably can't run it anyway, so I'd have to do something about that.
