Hello,

I have an older Topcon brand TSCe Ranger. It is running on windows CE 4.0 and it has Survey pro v3.8. ?ÿItƒ??s been babies since I acquired it last summer. ?ÿI was performing a test on a Topcon Total station and out of nowhere, the screen started flickering. As a side note, the battery on the collector was low when it gave out.

i took out the battery and allowed the unit to power down, then plugged the battery back in. Same issue. ?ÿI made a short video to give you guys a better idea what is going on.

Any advice? ?ÿI do not have a manual for this DV so I honestly donƒ??t know where to begin my diagnosis.

Thank you for any help.

Hate to say it but I'd probably drop it in the trash.?ÿ They are pretty out of date and I'm pretty sure they aren't supported anymore.?ÿ We have had three of them over the years and they were pretty good for the day.?ÿ Often there are some places that have a few of them laying around and they will take parts off an old junk one to fix yours, but you would have to find someone to do it.

It could be a power issue.?ÿ The old 4000SSE gps receivers would do something similar when both batteries were dead.?ÿ It would try to start, detect low battery, switch batteries, try to start, detect low battery, on and on until one battery completely gave out.

I kept the unit ƒ??onƒ? overnight with the battery plugged in. Now, itƒ??s just barely a flicker. ?ÿMy gut says it could be the battery. I found a replacement battery for ?ÿ$30-50 new online. I will invest in a new battery and see what happens.

Update: ?ÿI plugged the ranger back in to the charger this morning and whoops! It fired right up. ?ÿI charged the ranger with the current battery and it works fine. I guess you canƒ??t keep a Ranger down for long.?ÿ
